Description

Trends, Tips and product launches from NAB 2012

Q: What makes Sony Creative Software's products stand out from the rest?
A: Sony Creative Software pioneered many of the innovative concepts that are now finding their way into the rest of the NLE field, including “no transcode, no re-wrap” mixed format editing, 5.1 audio mixing, integrated closed captioning workflows, and 4K support. Vegas Pro 11 is the first Windows-based NLE to use OpenCL™ technology for GPU acceleration, giving our users a wide range of hardware choices at a variety of price points. Similarly, our ability to use industry-standard VST audio plug-ins and OpenFX-based video plug-ins has presented our users with a comprehensive set of optional creative tools from leading providers like iZotopes, Waves, Red Giant, GenArts, BorisFX, NewBlue, and Re:Vision, to name a few.

Q: What trends in technology do you see on the horizon?
A: There is clearly a trend toward large-imager cameras at a wide range of price points, from the affordable DSLRs like Sony’s Alpha line, to high-performance, mid-priced cameras like the PMW-F3 and NEX-FS700, to the high-end F65 camcorder. Sony is addressing the needs of the digital cinematographer with a robust selection of Super-35mm cameras, while at the same time offering one of the most comprehensive line-ups of traditional ENG camcorders in the industry.

Q: What tips would you give to upcoming or veteran editors about your products?
A: Vegas Pro 11 has many features that will speed your workflow that may not be apparent at first glance. Break out of the traditional paradigms and look at the fresh new ways VP offers when working with media. Spend some time with the interactive tutorials to get up to speed quickly.

Q: What new products did Sony Creative Software highlight at NAB 2012?
A: We announced and demonstrated three products:
* Spectral Layers, a precise audio editing platform that utilizes a visual, interactive approach. Spectral Layers can accurately analyze, extract and transform audio data using multiple layers to operate directly on waveform spectra.

* ThemeBuilder for Vegas Pro, a plug-in for the award-winning NLE that enables intelligent template building for professional video projects. Complex, heavily layered motion graphic sequences can be authored and saved as Theme Packages for use in subsequent projects. All elements of the theme can be quickly updated and modified using a simple text-driven User Interface, making it easy to achieve a consistent, high-quality look across multiple projects.

* DoStudio, a series of applications focused on professional 2D and 3D Blu-ray Disc™ authoring. DoStudio products empower users to create high-quailty, replication ready Blu-ray Disc™ titles with interactive pop-up menus, complex interactivity, and dual 1080p 3D streams.
