Featured Interveiw: Lightworks Design at Siggraph 2012
Description
Q: Can you give us a brief history on Lightworks?
A: Lightworks was founded in 1989 in Sheffield in the UK by 4 computer graphics experts whose goal was to design a high quality software toolkit for producing advanced photorealistic images from 3D geometry. At the time this was a revolutionary approach as most other graphic software companies were focusing on providing end-user applications whereas Lightworks concentrated on providing software developers with a toolkit solution which they could integrate within their own software applications. This was the start of what has today become a worldwide rendering solution, with over 3 million users in over 80 software applications across the globe.
Q: What does Lightworks pride itself in most, and what sets it apart from other companies?
A: Lightworks provides integrated solutions so users can design their model and create renders within the same software application. This makes the whole design process much simpler and easier and means users do not have to keep jumping backwards & forwards between applications.
Our Lightworks Artisan users can download a large selection of materials, light studios and backgrounds directly from our Lightworks Artisan websitewww.lightworksartisan.com These can be easily imported into their application and used directly within Artisan, giving them a greater selection to choose from.
Q: What are you looking forward to featuring during the 2012 Siggraph show?
A: At this year’s Siggraph exhibition we’re going to be demonstrating some of the latest technology from Lightworks. Firstly, visitors to our stand will be able to see our next generation Lightworks Artisan product, which uses our Lightworks Author rendering technology. Artisan provides a complete and ready-to-deliver solution that is integrated within a CAD application through a simple “bridge”. Artisan is already available within a number of CAD applications, such as ZW3D, Kompas-3D from Ascon, Artisan for BricsCad and Render Boost from BeLight Software – who will be demonstrating their product on the Lightworks booth. We’re looking forward to showing visitors just how intuitive and simple-to-use Artisan really is and how they can use it to improve their workflow and create high quality images.
We’ll also be showing a demonstration of stereoscopic 3D technology within Lightworks Artisan using FirePro graphics cards, capability that is the result of our partnership with AMD.
Our CEO is taking part in the panel debate at the Jon Peddie Research Press Luncheon and we’ll be attending other events during the week so it promises to be a busy but exciting show for all of the Lightworks team and we hope that people will come along to booth 1137 to meet us.
Q: What does the future hold for Lightworks? Any new updates?
A: One area which we believe is already becoming important is in providing off machine rendering, be this network rendering or cloud rendering. This is something which will be introduced within Artisan soon to help users speed up their design work.
Q: What does Lightworks Design constantly strive to create?
A: At Lightworks we’re continuously working to develop the products and technologies that our customers and end users need to help them in their work. Our integrated Author solutions help users to remain within the same application for their design and rendering, simplifying their work processes, but we also want to fit in with the ever-changing model that our Artisan users need in order to get up-to-date images to their clients and review teams. Artisan helps with this as users can make changes within their model that are updated within Artisan, and our SnapShot feature in Artisan means that they can create a set of images which retain all the details they need and which they can also insert within their client presentations.
Q: Anything else you would like to add?
A: I’d just like to encourage people to come along to see us at Siggraph and for those readers who wont be in LA, check out our websites and social media sites for more information about Lightworks. They can find us on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and Pinterest, so please check out Lightworks online.
