Description
db South is David Brown, DP for news and documentary production.
My goal is to produce strong, compelling images. I know how to achieve this with my production gear and if your budgets allow for crowds, cranes or helicopters, I know how to use those, too.
I am a member of NABET and IBEW, have a current passport, good health and a well-maintained set of HDXDCam, DVCPro HD and Betacam gear. I am conversant in Hebrew and can get by (or get in trouble) in French and Spanish. I have worked in film and video production since 1974, on everything from All-Star Wrestling to Gatorade spots, from projects with no budgets to commercials with million dollar budgets. I have taught video production, produced documentaries, worked as a grip, gaffer, DP, director and sound tech. And since 1986, I have provided over 2500 days of camera services to the networks' news divisions.
Most of my work is shooting features for the morning and evening news shows, magazines and specials. I have set up many a two and three-camera field interview and had the opportunity to contribute to a number of long-form pieces. My clients have included: ABC News: 20/20, Primetime, Nightline, World News Tonight, Specials Unit, GMA; CBS News: 60 Minutes, 48 Hours, Public Eye, Before Your Eyes, Coast to Coast, Street Stories, West 57th, Sunday Morning, Evening News; CNN: Newstand, Paula Zahn; NBC News: Dateline, Today, Nightly News, Specials Unit; A&E; BBC; CBS Sports; Court TV; ESPN; Fox News Channel; Fox Sports; Frontline; HBO; HBO Sports; HDNet; HGTV; Nick News; Paramount ; Rather Reports; Showtime, the Travel Channel and ZDF.
My work has received awards at the Athens and Atlanta Film and Video Festivals and been presented at the International Public Television Screening Conference and the Monitor Awards. And I photographed programs that received national News and Documentary Emmys in 1986, 1993, 2002, 2003 and 2006.
David Brown has been in the industry since 1975.
