RED Digital Cinema Technician.
My name is Von Thomas, and I just finished a two camera RED shoot with DP Gale Tattersall (of Fox's House series).
I recently relocated from New York where I ran a digital capture boutique for 10 years (www.digitaltechnyc.com). I know digital, and I know the RED, also I'm the proud owner of RED #5721. As I did in New York, I was a rental and tech digital camera service for photographers. I'm not interested in shooting, but teching, troubleshooting, and archiving the data. My prime objective is to make shooting on the RED and seamless experience, and to give post great content to work with. I have a few tricks and tools most techs don't use, as they approach RED from a film workflow. RED is different, and to get the most beautiful imagery, I can get you there.
As I mentioned I just teched a gig for Gale Tattersall, shooting on RED. It was a two camera shoot in the desert, one static, one steadicam. My job was to monitor exposure for every take, make camera setting changes, trouble shoot any issues (there were none), as well as backup data to three drives. We were shooting in full daylight and also after dark, and all content was properly exposed.
The approach to RED is the same as digital still, you cannot use film or video methods when it comes to exposure for this camera, it's a different animal. I've also been a photographer for over 25 years (www.vonthomas.com), I know how to nail exposure, and how to achieve the best color out of a digital file.
Over the years I've taught digital workshops, training others in the ways of digital, and I plan to do the same for the RED. I'm actually scheduled to teach a once a week digital course at Art Center Pasadena.
