I began my career in video production in 2000, first as an intern for ABC Eyewitness News before graduating from SUNY at New Paltz, then as a production assistant at Learning Matters, Inc., a non-profit production company that produces reports on education for PBS.
I spent over 10 years in various positions at Learning Matters, working my way up to producing and writing 15 short-form segments for PBS NewsHour. I was also an associate producer on 1 long-form PBS documentary, First to Worst, that explored the rise and fall of California's education system. The documentary won a Silver Hugo Award and CINE Golden Eagle Award in 2005.
In 2010, I earned an Education Writer’s Association Award in the documentary and feature category and a CINE Golden Eagle Award in the professional news division category for my PBS NewsHour series on Paul Vallas, the “turnaround” superintendent charged with fixing a deeply troubled and failing Recovery School District in New Orleans. With unparalleled access, the series followed Vallas and the district's principals and teachers as they moved quickly to transform a system that has suffered generations of neglect and a severely impoverished student body whose test scores were at the bottom.
At Learning Matters, I assisted in the production of 20 additional short-form segments for PBS NewsHour and 7 additional long-form documentaries, field produced 7 episodes of a video web series, and wrote and edited over 30 podcasts that are featured on learningmatters.tv.
Since 2010, I have worked as a Senior Producer for Ironbound Films, a new media and documentary video production company. I have managed, produced and written over 50 informational and profile videos for Fortune 500 corporate clients and non-profit organizations. The videos have been used for fundraising, marketing, and screenings at events worldwide.
I am known for my tireless work ethic, storytelling skills, strong client relationships, and ability to juggle multiple projects at once under tight deadlines. I am currently looking for producer or production management career opportunities in broadcast and digital media.
Valerie Visconti has been in the industry since 2000.
