Don Abernathy
Description
Don Abernathy is a working Grip (Non-Union) in the local Los Angeles independent film scene, a Cinema major at Los Angeles City College, and a Film Production major at West Los Angeles College, the only two Community Colleges in the nation that offers Official Grip classes and focused training by someone from International Cinematographers Guild (Local 600)and grip Local 80, respectively.
Among dozens of student films, feature films for Video/DVD and television release, Don Abernathy had the honor of working a Post Production position on James Cameron's "Avatar", 2009,) via IMAX, and recently as a Grip second Unit)on the feature film "Silver Case", 2011, staring Eric Roberts, Seymour Cassel, and Shalim Ortiz.

- Trained in the use, recognition, and proper application and handling of most Grip equipment and tools used on set production
- KNOTS: Skilled in the proper use of Knot tying by memory including Bowline, Clove Hitch, Half Hitches, Square Knot, Sheet Bend, Girth Hitch, Timber Hitch, Taut Line Hitch, Slip Knot, and Pipe Hitch to
- Trained and Experienced in the use, recognition, organization, management, and understanding of Grip Terminology and Language of Tools and Lighting Instruments as called for onto the set for speed and
- Knowledge of 3 Point Lighting concept and its overall application to production lighting
- Knowledge of handling, positioning, and adjusting most Lighting Fixtures and Instruments used in production
- Knowledge of controlling and shaping light with flags, scrims, bounce, diffusion, gels, nets, gobos, and other available tools as requested
- Knowledge and Understanding of Power Distribution systems, proper wattage range and limitations for select Lighting fixtures
- Understand the proper protocol for task range and limits by other Departments such as Electrical (Gaffters and their Grips)
- Trained and Experienced in the areas of Production Safety, Awareness, and Protocol to communicate and report if necessary potential safety and or electrical hazards small and large
