I lived in beautiful Colorado for most of my life. I grew up there and got an extensive education at both the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of Colorado at Denver. While earning my first bachelors degree from CU Boulder I studied journalism, multimedia design, business and philosophy. These disciplines gave me a solid foundation of knowledge to draw from in almost any situation and expanded my graphic design, web design and social media marketing skills to a higher level, which can be seen in my creative portfolio at: (www.rexbuchanan.carbonmade.com).
In my junior year of college I earned the once in a lifetime opportunity to study abroad on a program called Semester at Sea. Along with a few hundred other students I was fortunate enough to literally travel around the world on a ship with visits to ports in Brazil, South Africa, India, China and Japan, all while learning about religion, culture and photography with an international focus. Semester at Sea greatly expanded my mindset and gave me an understanding of the many different cultures and belief systems in the world. It prepared me to think globally and to understand the many different perspectives people from other cultures come from. Upon returning from Semester at Sea I graduated from CU Boulder and started life in the working world.
Travelling helped me to realize that I absolutely loved music and I wanted it to be a bigger part of my life. I had been DJing and playing piano as a hobby for much of my life so I decided to take my passion for music to a professional level. I soon found an opportunity to start working as a DJ and nightclub promoter at dozens of venues in Colorado, holding residencies at Beta Nightclub and Club Vinyl among countless others, and I even got to perform on the main stage of the world renowned Red Rocks Amphitheater for an event called Global Dance Festival. As I matured I began to develop my business sense by starting my own event production company and my own recording studio. I developed all the branding, logos and marketing strategy for both entities and became an expert at Wordpress design, social media, event planning and customer service. I concurrently earned a second bachelor’s in Music Industry Studies with an emphasis in Recording Arts Technology to enhance my knowledge in these areas. Now that my businesses are running smoothly in the hands of competent employees back at home and my second degree is complete I have my sights set on continuing my career in New York City, where the sky is the limit.
