Queens is the most culturally diverse county in the United States, and therefore arguably, the world. With two international airports, spacious apartments with reasonable rents and cultural centers that rival any other city, we boast residents from 58 different countries – many of whom are artists, filmmakers, and others from the entertainment community.
At QWFF we pride ourselves on having something for everyone: good food from local eateries, great films at multiple venues, solid and informative panels with opportunities to network and create contacts.
In 2011, our premier year, QWFF screened 120 films at 2 locations on 4 screens. Over the 4 days 1,603 audience members attended films from Israel, Brazil, India, Germany, Korea, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Australia and Japan. Domestic films from Los Angeles, Chicago, Oregon, Kansas, Georgia, DC, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Astoria and Jackson Heights rounded out the schedule. Our Film Finance panel featured Mike S. Ryan, an Independent Spirit “Producer of the Year Award” Nominee, one of Variety's 2007 “10 Producers to Watch” and an IFP advisory board member and was moderated by Jim Jermanok, whose most recent film "EM" won the Grand Jury Prize at the Seattle International Film Festival.
