Whether you're coding by hand, using a text editor, or going full-blown WYSIWYG, you're writing HTML. HyperText Markup Language is the language of the World Wide Web, and it's surprisingly easy. Even if you're using a visual editor, you're likely to need a greater understanding of how HTML works. And if you want to jump straight into hardcore web development, this is where you start - with the lingua franca of web browsers.

HTML is so much simpler than you might think, and this class will have you writing it in just one night. You'll learn the basics of the language, the old ways, the new ways, and a peek at what the future holds. You'll learn how HTML defines the structure of a web page by identifying types of content. We'll cover the differences between types of HTML and type variations, what elements are and how they are used and related. Before you leave you'll have an understanding of the language that may have taken months of reading and trial-and-error learning.

This workshop will cover:

* HTML 4 vs XHTML
* The DOCTYPE and why it's crucial
* Elements, the basic building blocks of a web page
* CSS and how it relates to HTML
* How to write clean, standards-compliant code
* What NOT to do
