Q: How do certified training classes differentiate professionals in today's competitive marketplace?
A: Hands-on, instructor-led certified training classes are the most efficient way to learn editing. I was a self-taught Avid and FCP editor for years and felt very comfortable with the machinery. It wasn't until I finally took my certified training to become an instructor that I saw what I was missing! I was shocked at the huge gaps in my knowledge. I'm a faster and better editor for having learned the software in a certified training environment, and I've seen the same results in countless MEW Shop students. (cont.'d)

Q: What advice do you have for job-seeking professionals in the video production industry?
A: My advice to professionals seeking opportunities in the video production industry is to think of yourself as a 'brand' and craft an enticing resume that is both visually eye-catching and of course literally well-crafted. Also make sure your branding carries over to your reel, website or portfolio. I can't begin to tell you how many creatives I've seen over the years who crafted a resume with a particular look that doesn't match the home page of their website or reel. Consistency is one important key when stepping forward in the job market. Another vital key to success is networking; build your network and they will know who you are and how to find you.
