Q&A with Tribeca Film Festival
Q: Where do you see the art of filmmaking heading in 2011?
A: That's hard to say. Some discussions that I've had over the year – and this includes filmmakers who work on studio films – is the changing ways that people watch films. I think the content will always stay with what filmmakers want to make. But filmmakers may be coming a little more conscious of how people may be watching their films. For instance, what or should a filmmaker think about when making a film if they think that someone may be watching their film on an iPad or mobile phone? Does that change anything in the process? No one has any definitive answer. Maybe it doesn't mean anything, but it's something to think about. Maybe soon, some filmmakers may focus on making films or content for that kind of delivery. What does it mean if there is audience out there that watches films primarily on a 4-inch screen and not at one time? I know people that do that; they'll watch a film on their iPod while they're on the train or in transit, which means they'll watch it at 15-minute spans instead of one sitting.

Q&A with Picture Desk
Q: What would you say is the value of stills in contemporary film and video productions?
A: Well I guess since Ken Burns' great Civil War series filmmakers have realized how much stills can add to a production, especially when you are talking about a time in history where there is no footage available. Stills can also provide an economic and dynamic alternative to moving images and create those special effects. To incorporate the various types of camera moves, you will need high resolution files which are available on our site for immediate download. And if you need to do a super close-up on an element in the photo we can rescan the image to just the right file size, no charge. We can email or ftp it's up to you.
Q: What trends are you seeing in the world of documentary content – and how does that impact your business?
A: We see that our clients are being asked to produce bigger and better products with greater distribution rights, but with smaller budgets. We understand these constraints, so we offer bulk deals and discounts. We always try to work within our clients' budgetary restrictions and provide the rights required for their projects.

Green Production Tip of the Month
Get creative with your set for a cleaner, greener on-location work environment! e.g. On the film "Away We Go," crew members used garlic instead of toxic chemicals to fight mosquitoes on location.
