Q&A with Gary James, National Placement Director at Ohio / Illinois Centers for Broadcasting

Ohio / Illinois Centers for Broadcasting

Q: If you could give one piece of advice for a student graduating this month, what would it be?

A: Be versatile with passion. Someone told me when I was about to graduate from school, "Love what you do and you will never work a day in your life." Passion for your career is so important because it will give you the drive and determination you need to succeed. Passion will come out in your creativity and all of your work. As technology is changing every day, you need to be versatile. You have to be willing to do whatever it takes to get a foot in the door and build your career from that point. As you are building your career, you will be asked to do things you never thought would be in your job description, but as Radio, TV and the Internet, converge you have to be able to provide your services on multiple platforms.

Boulder Digital Arts

Q: Are there certain industry trends we should be on the look-out for regarding education or training?

A: The biggest trend we are seeing today is that of people needing to be trained in doing everything themselves; i.e. working as a one-man band. You will be much more marketable if you can perform many duties, making it cost-effective for those that want to hire you.

Q&A with Jeff Rothberg, President, Co-Founder of FMC Training

FMC Training

Q: Tell us a little bit your training programs and how it differs from competitors in the industry.

A: FMC is the most established training organization in the nation and has been in business since 1994. No other training company offers the range of courses FMC does — making it a one stop shop for TV, film, video and graphics professionals for training. Small class size is just one reason why FMC is considered a leader in the training space. FMC programs cover digital editing, motion graphics, web design, sound design, 3-D animation, MAC IT and mobile Apps development. Courses are manufacturer authorized and provide attendees with manufacturer certificate of completion. Courses are offered in FMC centers in Boston, NY, Philly, DC, Orlando and Chicago and are available in class, online or onsite nationwide.

Go Green

Green Production Tip of the Month

Sponsored By Tyr Natural Spring Water

What did you do with your old laptop battery and cell phone the last time you got a new one? Or the dead batteries you took out of your camera?

We hope you joined thousands of others and put them in your building’s e-waste recycling bin. Each year, Americans go through 2.25 million tons of TVs, cell phones and computer electronics and over 3 billion dry-cell batteries.
