Matrox Announces World's First Quad SDI-to-HDMI Multiviewer

Matrox - Digital Video Solutions

Matrox Video Products Group introduced Matrox® MicroQuad this past week, a four-channel SDI-to-HDMI® multiviewer priced at just $995 US. The small easy-to-use device lets users monitor up to four SDI inputs on a single HDMI display in quadrant view, or toggle to a full-screen view at the touch of a button. Inputs can be 3G or HD or SD, and all controls are on the unit itself; no computer is required. Matrox MicroQuad ensures a crisp, artifact-free monitoring experience, thanks to its state-of-the-art 10-bit scaling engine with advanced filtering and de-interlacing.

"Broadcast engineers and A/V professionals often encounter situations in which they need to monitor multiple SDI feeds," said Alberto Cieri, senior director of sales and marketing at Matrox. "The new Matrox MicroQuad multiviewer lets them use an affordable HDMI display to view up to four SDI signals, and we are offering the unit at a breakthrough price."

Featured Interview: Q&A with Jeff Rothberg, president of Future Media Concepts

Future Media Concepts

Q: What trends do you see in technology?

A: The trend of technology has been moving towards a completely mobile future for many years now. Magazines, newspapers and publishers that saw dwindling profits over the past decade now have a reason to be optimistic with subscription based services being rolled out for e-readers like the Kindle, Nook and iPad. Businesses that traditionally used PCs and BlackBerry's have adopted the iPad as well and most have come around to the idea of the iPhone being used in enterprise.

Q: What are you most excited to see at NAB 2012?

A: I am very excited for the Post Production World Keynote. Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, and Rob Legato, Academy Award® winning Visual Effects Supervisor (Hugo, Titanic), will be sharing their thoughts on how creativity and technology intersect to foster compelling storytelling. You'll also get a taste how advances in digital technology can be used to help you create engaging, thought-provoking work more quickly than ever before.

Featured Interview: Q&A with Boris Yamnitsky, president and founder of Boris FX

Boris FX

Q: What new product(s) is your company showcasing at NAB 2012 this year?

A: At booth SL2914, we are showcasing the much-anticipated Boris Continuum Complete v8 collection of visual effects plug-ins for Avid, Adobe, Apple, and Sony. New flicker reduction and videoscope tools, 32-bit float support, and enhanced lens flares, particles, glows, and lights headline the Version 8 release.

Q: What trends in technology do you see on the horizon?

A: Interoperability between various nonlinear video editing systems, multiple acquisition formats, and XML/AAF timeline standards. Ever-increasing CPU processing speeds and threading, plus GPU acceleration, make complex visual effects a truly interactive experience for a lot of users. More users are aware of the importance of visual effects now and this awareness will continue to grow over time.
