HOLLYSHORTS FILM FESTIVAL OPENING NIGHT TO KICK OFF WITH WORLD PREMIERE OF 42 STAR CHADWICK BOSEMAN’S SHORT FILM HEAVEN


Hollywood July 31, 2013---SOLmont Events, the organizers of HollyShorts Film Festival, the largest short film festival in Los Angeles, are continuing to unravel their opening shorts celebration lineup. HollyShorts will open with the world premiere of Chadwick Boseman’s short film HEAVEN. Boseman recently starred as the legendary Jackie Robinson in Warner Bros. smash hit film 42 which earned over $95 million at the domestic box office and is currently available on DVD and Blu Ray everywhere. Boseman, who Directed HEAVEN, will present the Drama short at the festival and participate in the Q&A following the screening which takes place on Thursday, August 15th at the TCL Chinese Theatre. HEAVEN joins two other announced shorts participating in the evening’s lineup Dan Carrillo Levy’s ZERO HOUR starring Camilla Belle, Jaime Camil, written by Guillermo Arriaga and Thomas Jane and Director Phil Joanou’s PUNISHER: DIRTY LAUNDRY.

HEAVEN was written by Javon Johnson, and stars April Parker-Jones and Walter Fauntleroy.HEAVEN tells the story of an ex-con troubled by his inability to return to his pre-prison sexual orientation. He orders an aging call girl whose life depends on him wanting her. The film was produced by Beatriz Eliza and Logan Coles. Eliza and Boseman are also executive producers.
HEAVEN will premiere during the festival’s short film evening showcase taking place immediately following the screening of David Rodgriguez’ feature film Last I Heard. HollyShorts opening day will have something for everyone, Rodriguez’s opening feature which stars Paul Sorvino, Michael Rapaport, Renee Props, Andrea Nittoli, and Lev Gorn will have it’s LA premiere in the afternoon. Following the feature, the festival will present short film enthusiasts its annual opening night short film showcase with HEAVEN kick-starting the evening.

Additional short films for HollyShorts opening night will be announced in the coming weeks along with the full festival lineup.

A native of South Carolina, Boseman graduated from Howard University and attended the British American Dramatic Academy at Oxford, after which he began his career as a playwright, director and theater actor. He wrote Deep Azure, which was nominated for a Jeff Award for Best New Play and is published in the Hip Hop Theater Anthology Say Word; Hieroglyphic Graffiti, which was produced at the National Black Theatre Festival and the Hip Hop Theatre Festival; and co-wrote Rhyme Deferred, which appears in the Hip Hop Theatre Anthology The Fire This Time. Boseman’s theatre directing credits include: Dutchman, Wine in the Wilderness, Indian Summer, Spear in the Sun, Colored Museum, and Six Hits. For the screen he wrote, directed and executive produced the short film Blood Over a Broken Pawn. His theatre acting credits include Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Breathe, Learning Curve,Willie’s Cut and Shine, Rhyme Deferred, Bootleg Blues, Zooman and the Sign, and Urban Transitions, for which he won an AUDELECO Award for Best Supporting Actor. Boseman made his feature film debut in Gary Fleders drama The Express, playing football great Floyd Little. He more recently starred in the independent psychological post-war drama The Kill Hole. Boseman starred as the lead of Warner Bros. 42 where he received strong reviews for his portrayal of the legendary Jackie Robinson. The film tells of Robinson’s history-making signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers under the guidance of team executive Branch Rickey, played by Harrison Ford. Boseman can be seen next in Lionsgate’s Draft Day, where he plays Vontae Mack. The film depicts the struggle of the Cleveland Brown’s general manager, Sonny Weaver Jr. played by Kevin Costner, to acquire the number one draft pick.
