5 Reasons Why You Should Be Thinking About Video Marketing

Published on in Advice / Tips & Tricks

Regardless of what kind of business you are in, you're missing out on one of the most effective marketing tools if you aren’t already investing in video marketing. Because of the popularity of mobile devices and modern computers, as well as the availability of fast and affordable internet, people are spending more time watching videos online, and this presents businesses with a large audience of prospective customers. As a type of content, videos have lots of inherent advantages over other content formats, and it's a must do for any emerging or established business. Here are 5 reasons why you should be thinking about video marketing today.

1. Videos increase conversions

Videos are more effective than other forms of content when it comes to boosting conversion rates. Orlando based video production company Vibrant Media Productions has found that videos can increase conversions upwards for 77% when strategically placed on landing pages. Other studies like the one conducted by Adobe recently found that people who watched demo videos on e-commerce sites were 80% more likely to make a purchase compared to those who don’t watch the videos.

Similar studies have shown that more than 70% of businesses that use videos for marketing purposes have reported an increase in overall conversions, and close to 65% have witnessed increased sales. Because of the increased conversions and profits, more than 4 out of 5 businesses say that video marketing provides a great return on investment.

2. Video is proven to engage audiences for longer

Our brains are wired to consume information visually. Scientists have found that 90% of the information that goes into the human brain is visual and that the brain can process visual content around 60 thousand times faster than text.

When you read a piece of text, your brain will try to visualize the information in order for you to understand it. Video eliminates the additional processing, allowing for quick processing of what is being conveyed. This is why it’s easy to spend endless hours watching TV as opposed to reading a novel. In the same way, it’s easier to watch a video clip for a longer period of time than it is to read an article.

3. Marketing videos can convey more information in a shorter period of time than other formats

With more distractions online today, the average person has less time to read lengthy articles. Everyone wants to get the information they need as fast as possible. You can fit a lot of information about a product or service in just a few minutes of video. This is perfect for time-constrained viewers.

With videos, you can show and tell at the same time. Explaining how a product works can be truly difficult if you were to only use text and pictures, and even then, there is no guarantee that your audience will fully understand you.

4. Video is a super versatile format that can be included in everything from email campaigns to blog posts

It’s safe to say that the internet today is built for video content. A marketing video can be adapted for any kind of campaign. Videos can be easily added to a landing page or an email via thumbnail links. Additionally, they can be shared on social media platforms and watched on an array of devices. Because of nature of videos, the same base content can be easily updated or remixed to be used across the next generation of platforms in the future as well.

5. More consumers are turning to videos to get information and make decisions

Before the rise of e-commerce websites, people used to go to stores to see products before deciding whether or not to buy them. With online shopping, that’s not an option. The only way people get to see how a product works before buying it is through watching marketing videos. An increasing number of people are using videos to learn about products because it’s the most convenient way to do so online. No other content format can fill that role as easily. The modern consumer wants to see a product in action before buying it, which is why unboxing and review videos are so popular.

These points should have been conveyed in a video, instead of an article. I had to give myself a pep talk to read for that long. Just kidding. Great article and great stuff to think about (I do still like to make myself read, even though we're selling video).
