6 Ideas to Help Land Your Ideal Job

Published on in Advice / Tips & Tricks

The current era is rapidly changing. New trends and ideas keep emerging and evolving every day. As a student, I used to ask myself how I can survive in the fast-paced world and reach my ideal job or climb up the corporate ladder. The doors of opportunities are open for all, but the right door and the right pathway are the most important factors that can turn the tables for any man or woman.

My university friends think that professional degrees matter, but in my professor’s view; experience is more important to propel one forward in her career. I was very confused so I decided to read and explored the ingredients needed to get my ideal job. Over the years, I worked in different companies to reach my goal and got some good experience, too.

I think you will also benefit from my experience and the six secret ideas unveiled here.

1. Find your passion

If you are unable to understand your passion, then you need to observe the ideals of your life in your social context and find out what you want. Before aiming for your ideal job, define ‘ideal’ to yourself. Write down its definition and translate it into your goal.

Read it every day so that you remember to work on achieving your target rather than just imagining it. To transform it into a reality, you need to take concrete steps towards it. Put up the goal statement everywhere in your house. Be it your living area, study, kitchen etc. Through this strategy, you will internalize your goal and it will become the sole purpose of your life.

Focus on what you need to have to jumpstart your career. It could be a higher degree, a specific skill set or contacts within the industry of your choice – whatever it is, start working on it right away.

2. Sharpen the sharpest saw

As Stephen Covey mentions in his book “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People,” Sharpen the saw is the seventh habit. According to him, we must polish our strengths and take them to the level of excellence.

One of my friends was good at developing teaching resources so she started using her skill to the best of her abilities, and soon became a renowned name in her circle. Shortly afterwards she was approached by the principal of the neighborhood school and was offered a handsome package to join them as an arts teacher.

Another way to strengthen our skills is to take various courses and diploma programs that develop different skills. Technology is also our savior in this respect as we can register online for courses of our choice. Many institutions around the world offer courses and degrees on a huge plethora of subjects.

3. Think ahead of time

Be far sighted and think from the perspective of the CEO or director of the company in which you have applied. How can you contribute to taking this company to the heights of success?

Become a problem solver and think optimistically about the worst situations. In the interview, share possible solutions of the anticipated problems. Discuss new emerging trends in your industry with your future boss, and how you can collaborate and contribute in initiating new ideas.

Creativity can also ensure success. Think out-of-the-box. Share you novel and unique ideas with the interviewer. Take ownership of the organization, and it will reflect in your interview too.

4. Rolling stone gathers more moss

Gone are the days when people said that rolling stones gather no moss. Today, it could not be further from the truth. Frequently changing and switching jobs at the early stages of your career can teach you many things in a relatively short period. An experience like this can help you make better decisions about the kind of company you want to work with, and help you choose the right environment to grow professionally and personally.

It will also give you a clear understanding of how you can meaningfully contribute to society by being part of an organization that upholds certain values. This approach works best for those who are unsure of what they want, and would like to discover what they are passionate about.

5. Know the ins and outs of your industry and position

It is essential to acquire the right degrees, experience and skills to get a job so that we can compete with the rest of the world. One needs to know and understand the ins and outs of the desired position.

Make it a motto to endorse your goodness and provide multiple reasons to the employer to hire you. You are the one who can bridge the gap between the required criteria and your own shortcomings. Another thing that benefits those who rise to the top is that they start working from ground zero. It helps an individual understand everything about his industry so that when he reaches the top he is aware of the ways and secrets to hold that position.

6. Be yourself

Always be transparent and open so that the employer can understand you. It will spark an unspoken connection between your future bosses and create a relationship of mutual trust. Mention all of your successes in your profile. Avoid making false claims in your resume and show the real you. Present your C.V as the window that gives a glimpse of what you are capable of.

I hope these steps will benefit you in acquiring your ideal job and motivate you to share your success stories with others, too.
