Cine Gear Expo Is Almost Here!

Published on in Industry Announcements / Events

As industry events go, Cine Gear Expo is one of the most anticipated shows of the year. What better way to kick off the beginning of summer vibe than to take in some great new gear and hang out with some really cool industry types? That's what makes Cine Gear so different. Fewer suits, more time to engage in meaningful conversations! The 23rd Annual Cine Gear Expo returns to the revered Paramount Studios on May 31-June 3, 2018. You can still register for free!

Cine Gear Expo 2018 will offer over 300 exhibits (June 1-2) and dozens of complimentary seminars and panels covering filmmaking insights, techniques and technology from top makers and content creators.

Attendees can also enjoy the Cine Gear Film Series competitions and film screenings in Paramount’s state-of-the-art theatres. The festivities will launch with the engaging Student Film Series Competition on May 31st from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm, featuring screenings from finalists in the Student Short, Indie Short, Commercial and Music Video categories.

Visitors can get caught up on the latest trade secrets and tools when the exhibits open on Friday, June 1 from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Saturday, June 2 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

This event offers a casual Hollywood atmosphere where artists and makers can mix with professionals from rental houses, guilds, associations, trade journals and more. The atmosphere is chill but the technology is the hottest in the world. It’s the perfect place to see tomorrow’s technology first hand and share opinions and techniques.

Cine Gear is always full of surprises and this year promises to be no different. Of course, getting that info out of manufacturers and to you is getting harder and harder, because who wants to spoil the reveal? But after talking to several industry sources, the consensus was that there were going to be some really interesting products and announcements coming out of the show. Let’s take a quick look, then I’ll throw in few other “heavy hitters” that should be on your must-see list.

Acromove Encrypted, Portable, Rugged ServerPack35 Debuts at Cine Gear 2018

Acromove’s new ServerPack35 efficiently moves up to 144TB between facilities, combines compute, storage and networking in a unique Hyper-Converged Appliance that is software-agnostic.

Entertainment companies create, store and move a ton of data every day. Digital production and post, media libraries, archives and company resources – it adds up quickly. Shooting with the Arri 65 or Red Weapon can generate 2-5TB of raw camera files per day, not to mention the backup copies, transcoded proxy files, and other critical information. Getting this data to the cloud or between facilities can be a real time-waster.

ServerPack 35 is a unique portable NAS using an 8-core Xeon processor (optional 16-core) with up to 144TB raw storage (120TB with RAID6). It includes GbE and 10GbE copper and can be outfitted with 10GbE SFP+ and 40GbE QSFP+ network connections. All internal components are shock-mounted and the Pelican case it comes in is IP67-rated for water and dust protection. Stored data is protected with AES-256 encryption and the enclosure is tamper-resistant. The system is sized to ship as airline luggage for economy and weighs about 65 pounds with disks for inexpensive shipping.
