In Review: The Production Bot Switch 8
I was a bit skeptical when I saw Production Bot, the portable live broadcast studio, earlier this year at the NAB Show. I'll admit that I'm an old school Technical Director and set in my thoughts as to what a switcher was and what a switcher should be. But, I'm always looking for new and exciting gear to make live production easier. Assistant Technical Director and Production Bot guru Nick Walsh showed me the ins-and-outs of the Production Bot Switch 8 — and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised by what this little switcher can do.

Richard Crudo, ASC was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He began his film career as an assistant cameraman. As a director of photography, Crudo has shot a wide range of feature, television, and commercial productions. Among his feature credits are Federal Hill, American Buffalo, American Pie, Music From Another Room, Outside Providence, Down To Earth, Out Cold, Grind, Brooklyn Rules and some 26 episodes of the Emmy-award winning Justified. In Review: The Sony FS7II Delivers When It Really Counts!
First off, let me preface this review by saying nothing brings me more joy than getting a camera to try out and review. Some of the cameras I get are good and others are (in my mind) fantastic, great and all that. The Sony FS7II falls squarely in the second category. The second and maybe the more important set of questions are simple. I always ask myself, what would make me want to buy this camera? Secondly, what would compel (you) want to go out and buy this camera? Lastly, when it is all said and done, does it fit into what I am doing production-wise?

Why Every Director Needs an AD
above: Chicago-based AD Stephanie Clemonsby featured blog contributor, Jeremy PinckertAs the Velvet Underground famously sang, “I’m Beginning to See the Light.” Or at least a recent project I was slated to Direct forced me to turn my eyes even more towards a light to which I’ve already been headed. Irregardless, now that I’ve had a look? I ain’t ever going back. Our client, Go RVing, needed a wide-range of marketing video content for Broadcast and Web use, and they brought me in to direct a 4-day shoot on Michigan’s West Coast. The first day was all interviews with actual users telling their unscripted stories to camera. The second and third days involved shooting eight different scenic broll situations with 20+ talent members in various camping situations. The fourth day was a practice in planning, logistics, and highway patrol as we shot seven vehicles on a large stretch of a US highway, through rolling vineyards and driving on wooded country roads.
