AbelCine recently completed a build-out of their new location in Brooklyn’s Industry City. The 44,000 sq ft facility encompasses a sales showroom, rental facility, training theater, tech services center, community areas, and a development center. With an Open House planned for February 10, ProductionHUB caught up with Pete Abel, CEO; Mike Nichols, Business Development Manager; and Jeff Lee, National Training Manager, to learn more about the new space.
Richard Crudo, ASC was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He began his film career as an assistant cameraman. It’s no secret that choosing the a production location is an important component of successful shoot. More than just a backdrop, the right location can enhance everything from loading logistics, to lighting capabilities, to camera angles.
The camera crew behind the hit FX TV series The Americans chose Vitec Videocom brands to support the production through its second season. The show’s cinematographer Richard Rutkowski, and camera assistants Brendan K. Think about it-films, TV shows, and Broadway plays and musicals are all honored for their ability to entertain audiences, affect change in the world, and inspire new ideas. But what about college recruitment campaigns? Sure, you don’t buy a ticket to see them but that doesn’t detract from their ability to entertain students, effect applicants’ enrollment decisions, and inspire collegiate goals. In an increasingly competitive higher education market, colleges must get creative with their video campaigns to stand out from the crowd and connect with potential applicants in meaningful ways. How does a director take a winning pitch from concept into production? Earlier this year, I directed a commercial for Refilmery about a home security camera product. The system allows you to keep an eye on your home from via your smartphone. It’s a crowded market, so we had to find a way to portray the unique features of the product in a family-friendly manner. Let’s look at some of the pre-production and production challenges I encountered.
San Francisco and New York City are essentially roadmaps of instantly recognizable movie locations. The blogosphere is riddled with sites dedicated entirely to cataloging street intersections, seemingly inconspicuous doorways, and iconic spots like the Mrs. Doubtfire house and Katz’s delicatessen.
