In Review: Marshall Electronics CV506 Mini HD Camera (3G/HD-SDI, HDMI)
I normally don’t start off a product review with the word “fun”, but I have to tell you man was this camera fun. Don’t get me wrong, the Marshall CV506 has some serious features that would rival some cameras costing twice as much.

In Review: Panasonic AG-CX10
Over the last couple of years, I have been very fortunate to test and evaluate many different types of cameras. From full-size 8K to specialized miniature POV units putting different cameras to the test is always interesting and a lot of fun. In this review, we are going to be taking a look at the Panasonic AG-CX10. The AG-CX10 is said to be the little brother of the Panasonic AG-CX 350. In either case, both are excellent choices for people that need a good amount of features that allow for a quick start-up, getting the shots you need, then scramming out of harm's way. But before I get too deep there are a couple of the things I try to keep in mind when reviewing gear. Who is this camera for? What might they use it for? Will it be a good fit and a good return on investment?

4K is here – what do we do with it?
by Katrina Diamond4K is here - what do we do with it? ANC Sports' Chief Technology Officer Mark Stross will join Newtek's Chief Technology Officer Dr. Andrew Cross to explore how to maximize the adoption of 4K. In 2013, ANC integrated a control system to drive a video display featuring physical pixels of 1080p x 3840p at the Seattle Mariners, including dissolving content to effectively playback two HD streams at once. Meanwhile, Newtek's broadcast equipment is found in HD control rooms around the world. They will tackle the most pressing issues in both signage and broadcast control rooms such as how to successfully drive larger, higher definition displays, as well as the challenges of outputting content featuring such large file sizes. Topics such as when to scale content, delivery speed and distribution will receive an open floor discussion as the industry comes together to take greater than HD displays to the next level.

Q&A with Josh Apter, Creator of The Padcaster
PADCASTER PRODUCT TOUR from Manhattan Edit Workshop on Vimeo.Q: So, what exactly is The Padcaster? A: The Padcaster is a rugged iPad case turned mobile production studio that transforms your Apple tablet into an all-in-one moviemaking machine. This sturdy, customizable case lets videographers attach lights, mics and other filmmaking accessories and enhancements to the iPad. Paired with the Lenscaster, the combo takes the iPad from ordinary tablet to high-tech production device. Q: How did you come up with the idea for such a product? Was there an exact moment when the lightbulb went on and you thought of creating this device? A: When I saw that you could shoot HD video, edit it and upload it to almost anywhere (YouTube, Vimeo, CNN ireport, FTP) all on the iPad. It was faster than anything I’d ever seen and something literally clicked. It turned out to be a hernia, but while I was in surgery, I got the idea for the Padcaster. (OK, not that last part.)

CES 2014: What the Hype About Tomorrow Means to Your Business Today
by Ken KerschbaumerLast week the Consumer Electronics Show was held in Las Vegas, the annual convention of “all things electronics” as everything from smart toothbrushes to new electronic fitness bracelets and, of course, ultra-expensive Ultra-HD TV sets were introduced. Oh...and thousands upon thousands of covers and cases for smartphones and tablets were also rolled out. The New York Times today had a quick recap that really encapsulated what the show has become: a convention-sized version of the Sky Mall magazine found on airplanes as you often spend as much time thinking “why would anyone need that” as you do “what a great idea.”For those involved in TV production the show has two main functions: to provide a possible roadmap for future distribution platforms like Ultra-HD and small-screen video that may impact production tool purchasing plans and also as a place to see new consumer-level cameras, etc. that could play a role in a professional-level production.
