Virtual Set Design for Independent Films
The industry has been talking a lot about using virtual sets recently and for good reasons. Most of the attention has surrounded The Mandalorian, Disney +’s $120 million flagship show. While they’ve certainly pioneered the field and brought it the attention it deserves, a lot of projects don’t have Disney’s production money for their projects. With that being said, designing and utilizing virtual sets is not reserved for the flagship studio projects. Every independent filmmaker should be looking at how they can use this tool to their advantage as there are several scenarios where it can be helpful.

Creative Culture Focuses on Diverse Storytelling with Blackmagic Design
Located in Pleasantville, NY, the Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) developed its Creative Culture fellowship program to help champion underrepresented voices and diverse storytelling. Now in its fourth year, Creative Culture has helped 35 filmmakers create projects that have been selected by top tier film festivals, such as Sundance, Berlinale, and SXSW, and acquired by Fox Searchlight, POV, NY Times Op Docs, and Staff Pick’d at Vimeo. This includes recent projects such as Adam Meeks’ “Union County” which premiered at this year’s Berlinale, and Crystal Kayiza’s “See You Next Time” which was selected at Sundance 2020 and recently acquired by The New Yorker.

Behind the Production Design of Dolly Parton's Anthology Series
Heartstrings is an anthology series inspired by Parton's beloved songs. Because each episode was its own unique story - each episode needed a new set and design to fit the respective setting, era, and protagonist. From “J.J. Sneed," taking place in the old west, to “Down from Dover," taking place in the Vietnam War era, to “Jolene," which is set in modern day American South, it was Production Designer Ina Mayhew’s job to create sets that accurately represented each era and most importantly represented the message of each Dolly Parton classic.

ProductionHUB Exclusive: Rampant Design Makes New Orlando Studio A Reality
Ok, here is the straight out truth. I love sharing stories of people in our profession that aren’t afraid to take risks, put themselves and their assets (so to speak) on the line with our ProductionHub family. I met up with Sean and Stef Mullen of Rampant Design just a couple of years ago as they were navigating their small company into the big time of NAB. I was quickly impressed how their small company was able to rock it with the big boys and make some pretty big impressions at the show. I also got the vibe that besides being genuinely real people (a nice change) that they had bigger dreams. Don’t we all! So it was no surprise to me to hear that are chasing down the dream by opening a new studio space in Orlando, Florida.
