AbelCine recently completed a build-out of their new location in Brooklyn’s Industry City. The 44,000 sq ft facility encompasses a sales showroom, rental facility, training theater, tech services center, community areas, and a development center. With an Open House planned for February 10, ProductionHUB caught up with Pete Abel, CEO; Mike Nichols, Business Development Manager; and Jeff Lee, National Training Manager, to learn more about the new space.
With in-person concerts on hiatus, Grammy-nominated rock band Underoath turned to Odd!Life Studios to help produce a live streamed concert series so fans could enjoy their music while at home. Creating an immersive experience that was equal parts performance art, the concert series (“Underoath: Observatory”) consisted of three concerts over the course of three weeks, with each concert covering one of Underoath’s albums in its entirety. Cinematographer, Director and Producer Lief Thomason from Odd!Life Studios spoke exclusively to us about what it took to successfully pull off the concert series, including how using a Blackmagic Design workflow powered by four Pocket Cinema Camera 6Ks, an ATEM Mini Pro, ATEM 2 M/E Production Studio 4K and ATEM 1 M/E Broadcast Panel helped them get everything done within their tight two week turnaround time.
Supervising Sound Editor Mandell Winter has supervised sound editing and mixing teams for Apple's Defending Jacob, HBO's Outsider, & Quibi's #FreeRayshawn. Mandell received two Emmy nominations last year for his work on HBO's Deadwood: The Movie and Season 3 of HBO's True Detective. Additionally, in 2019 he received two MPSE Golden Reel Award nominations for True Detective, a third for Deadwood, and a fourth for What's My Name: Muhammad Ali. He talked exclusively to ProductionHUB about how COVID has altered his day-to-day, breaking into the industry (accidentally!) and what film made him tear up.
Recently, I was contacted through ProductionHUB to shoot a VR video tour for Lima Corporate, an international, cutting edge medical device manufacturer and 3D printer. The facility is connected to NYC’s Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). Lima’s engineers work directly with HSS surgeons to 3D print titanium medical devices, which help patients regain lost physical mobility. I was excited for the opportunity, but there was one caveat—we were in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.
