Gather a team and get ready to take the doc challenge!

Filmmakers from around the world are invited to register for our FUSION Doc Challenge to make a mini documentary in 5 days and premiere at the 2017 Slamdance Film Festival!

Register your team on our site and choose which five days you would like to make your film - either November 10-14 or November 14-18, 2016. On your start date, log into the site and receive your theme for the challenge and choice of 2 assigned documentary genres that will dictate the content and direction of your film. You will have 120 hours to make and upload your 4-7 minute film. We provide one additional hour for upload time.

After the challenge dates conclude, the films are judged by an industry panel of jurors. The top 12 films with the highest scores will premiere at the FUSION Doc Challenge Screening at Slamdance in January 2017. From the top 12 films, FUSION will select their favorite film and award a cash prize of $1500 and Doc Challenge will select their favorite film and award a cash prize of $1000. Additional awards will be given for Honorable Mention, Best Use of Theme, Cinematography, Score and best film in each genre. The "Best Score" winner receives a Filmstro soundtrack license for a movie with up to a $1M budget worth $1999. The winners will be announced immediately following the screening. Additionally, each of the 12 finalists receive 2 all access filmmaker badges to the 2017 Slamdance Film Festival.

The top 12 films plus an additional 8 films will receive distribution across all of FUSION network's channels. Following the premiere, there will be an online audience awards competition for the 12 finalist films leading up to The International Audience Awards Film Festival where the top 12 films will make their Los Angeles premiere at the Laemmle Theatre in Hollywood the first weekend of April 2017. All 12 finalists will receive two all access passes to attend IAAFF and Content Lab. Voting will close right before the IAAFF screening at IAAFF (exact time TBD). About International Documentary Challenge
International Documentary Challenge launched in 2005. This ongoing program sponsors a variety of themed competitions throughout the year in which filmmakers have a limited timeframe to make a short documentary (4-7 minutes) based on a designated topic. Over the years, a number of Doc Challenge films – which all receive prominent film festival exposure, in addition to other prizes – have received Emmy nominations and been eligible for Academy Award consideration. The Slamdance Film Festival is dedicated to new filmmakers. We accept films in every genre, on any topic from every country around the world. The festival program is selected from 100% blind submissions and we do not disqualify any films based on premiere status or date of completion. About IAAFF & Content Lab
Audience Awards winning films from will screen at The International Audience Awards Film Festival in North Hollywood at the Laemmle Theatre April 7- 9, 2017. Voting by the Audience Awards community and an industry jury determine winners of grand prizes presented at the IAAFF. Content Lab serves as a new meeting ground at the intersection of art and commerce in independent filmmaking. Content Lab kicks off with master classes and workshops during IAAFF and continues through April 5, 2017 with panel discussions, round tables and mentorship opportunities for filmmakers and sponsors of filmed creative content. The mission of Content Lab is to bring together filmmakers, brands and media industry leaders to learn from and connect with one another. Participants will leave Content Lab with a greater knowledge in how to bring authentic, persuasive stories to their audiences while driving engagement, measuring success and demystifying the filmmaker / sponsor relationship.
