Buzzfeed News contracted Broadcast Management Group to provide full technical execution of a live news special covering the outcome of the 2016 presidential election. BMG designed and built a full broadcast control room, technical center, and studio on the 13th floor of the Buzzfeed headquarters. BMG provided a redundant generator to support the production, which was parked on the street and cabled to the 13th floor. The 6+ hour program was streamed live on Twitter, marking the first collaboration between the two companies. “Election Night Live” was shot with 12 cameras – 3 peds cameras, 3 wireless handhelds, and 6 POVs – and featured a panel of Buzzfeed correspondents, 1-on-1 interviews, and live polling analysis from the Buzzfeed news desk. BMG integrated remote segments from Buzzfeed correspondents in the field in Los Angeles, London, New York, and Missouri via Skype and Facetime. The control room included a Chryon graphics system, EVS record and playback, audio, comms system, switcher, and paint control systems. BMG also provided all lighting, staging and front-of-house PA system. The live special proved to be a huge success, generating 265,000 concurrent viewers and 6.7 million total views.
