Ever since I can remember I have had extremely lucid dreams. At an early age I would flirt back and fourth with trying to figure out what was a dream and what was reality. Recurring locations and subconscious characters in dreams is common for me and adds to the confusion. Just like when you wake up right where you fall asleep I will “wake up” right where I left off in my last dream. I interact heavily with my subconscious characters just as I would with my friends and family in my real life. The time and memories made with them are almost just as real so why not cherish them just as much?
In 2014 I created this series of art titled SLEEPWALKING to specifically pull from my dreams. Each piece is another chapter in the story of some of these characters I have met along the way. Dealing with the struggles of understanding time (the past, present, and future), love, heartache, loss of loved ones, greed, and lust these characters were created.
Using black watercolor paint on paper to create the midground and foreground these pieces were then cut out and mounted to spray painted sheets of wood. The wood features an abstract space effect representing the dream inspired atmosphere these memories took place.
