This position works under the direction of the VP of Venue Engineering

The candidate for this position will be a key contributor of ideas and solutions for various technical and operational areas required for televising NBC’s Olympic coverage. The candidate will coordinate the Technical planning effort with Olympic Project Managers (both Technical and Operational) and is responsible for the design, integration and installation of television production facilities for the venues. The candidate will work closely with the IBC Engineering team, integrating the Venue facilities, into the IBC production & technical operation.

The candidate will assist the Venue Design Teams and the Venue Management team, with the dissemination of Venue Engineering information to Vendors and Production Teams.
The candidate will also support NBC Sports Technical Group, as needed, outside of Olympic planning periods

Responsibilities

Participates, in a key role, with the coordination of the design, deployment and installation of Venue equipment and systems at an Olympics.

Responsible for the inputting of Olympic Technical requirements and systems into the Olympic Venue Information System (VIS) and insures that the information is up to date.

Oversees the reconciling of the Olympic Equipment Management System (OEMS) equipment list with the Venue Information System (VIS) equipment reports.

Leads in the coordination of the collection of technical facilities requirements for the design of Venue facilities by meeting with various Production Teams and Engineering Project Managers.

Participates in meetings and venue surveys, as needed, to collect engineering requirements from Venue Production Teams.

Responsible for coordinating the requirements and requests for facilities, with other Engineering Project groups, for the design of Venue TOC rooms, Fly-pack Control Rooms, and other Operational areas.

Collaborates with NBC IBC Engineering Team to define Venue deliverables to the IBC (VANDA’s, Audio, IT interfaces) and coordinate installation of venue system plans into the IBC technical operation.

Key contributor to the development of equipment plans and budgets for Venue systems and oversees the procurement of the equipment and systems.

Key contributor to the development of project schedules and milestones and tracks the progress of Venue Integration Projects, Host Broadcaster submissions, Venue equipment shipping and Vendor deliveries, to insure that schedules are kept up to date.

Works with equipment manufacturers and vendors to define equipment requirements, with a focus on identifying equipment features, set-up configurations, workflow processes.

Coordinates and supervises equipment testing protocol and schedules to meet project milestones.

Liaise with the Field Shop staff to prepare shipments to venues and identifies/coordinates equipment transfers between venues.

Will work with the Venue Technical and Field Shop management groups, to coordinate the collection of equipment from the venues after competition ends.

Directly interfaces with the Venue Seniors Technical Managers and assists them in their planning of the deployment of equipment into the venues.

Communicates system designs and plans to the Senior Technical Managers and coordinates their support and follow up to the design.

Will facilitate the preparation of technical training/operational information for systems in use at the venues. This includes preparing and reviewing, system write-ups, drawings and other supporting materials, explaining Venue System Technical and Operational plans and procedures for the Venue Technical manual.

Supervise the preparation of documents and materials for the BM/TM seminar.

Key partner in the Venue Engineering Team that will be called upon to provide solutions and develop contingency plans for extraordinary circumstances , during the games, for all venue system

Experience / Skills

Basic Qualifications

Minimum ten years of experience in a television broadcast environment or equivalent combination of education/experience.

College degree in engineering or related field, and/or equivalent experience.

A broad range of experience with Broadcast systems including RF, Satellite, IP based Transmissions systems, Analog/Digital Audio and Video Systems and basic computer networking knowledge, with extensive experience with the design, installation and maintenance of Video, Audio and IP systems used in Remote (Outside) Television productions.

Robust knowledge and understanding of the requirements for Live HD studio and remote productions.

Experience with large scale multi- venue, television productions. Exposure to International productions is a plus.

Proficient at communicating both problems and solutions to technical and non-technical personnel alike and will help develop new processes, technologies and techniques which will help to improve the running of the facility.

Candidates must have excellent documentation and communication skills to facilitate effective results with staff and technology providers. Position requires a cool, level headed individual who works well under the pressures of “live” television.

Candidates must be comfortable with extended travel periods, including international travel.

Proven ability to read and understand system signal flow diagrams for television control room and studio facilities.

Proficient in software-driven broadcast video equipment.

Must be a self-starter who is able to meet deadlines.

Extensive Knowledge of Mac OSX, Microsoft Windows platforms.

Solid Understanding of TCP/IP networks and other data communication technologies.

Understanding of digital TV (HD/SDI, 4K-UHD) as well as core technical/plant facilities.

Ability/desire to support 24x7 production environment.

Desired Characteristics:

Knowledge of computer server installation and maintenance.

Experience with AutoCAD and Visio drawing programs.

Strong hands-on, problem solving skills with broadcast-related equipment and systems.

Proficient with broadcast production systems and software including Calrec Audio Consoles, Telex Intercom Systems, Sony Video Switchers, Wireless audio and communications systems.

Understanding of the urgent needs of the on-air News, Sports, and Entertainment environment; ability to stay focused and productive in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing assignments. And ability to work calmly within an emotionally charged and LIVE on-air environment.

Strong customer focus.

The ability to work alone and in a team environment with fellow engineers, Operations, IT and other departments.
