Responsibilities :
Purpose

A Transmission Engineer is needed to support Transmission engineering and operations technologies for the NBC Sports Group. This position works with and supports the NBC Sports Group Stamford facility including the NBC Sports Network, NBC Network, Olympics, and Digital/Web content.

Along with all of these groups, this position will work closely with the Sr. Director of Transmission Engineering to plan, support and interact with NBC Olympics and their partners. This position will interface with host organizations to ensure proper communication as well as interface directly with their counterparts in other organizations.

This position requires working closely with Production and BOC Operations personnel in order to develop the needs for production during the planning phases. Once that has been determined this position will then implement and execute the plan smoothly and without interruptions.

Responsibilities
Ensures the engineering designs, plans, maintenance and other activities results in a safe and reliable transmission operation; inclusive of transmission lines, switching stations, encoding/decoding, frame syncs, routing and scheduling systems.
Interfaces with the Operations and Production departments to ensure all their transmission and routing needs are being met.
Interacts with transmission carriers to resolve issues, escalations, maintenance, and overall performance.
Interacts with the IOC and OBS and other professional organizations to ensure planning and circuit order are executed to plan. This includes garnering a relationship with the organizations to ensure all needs are met.
Manages the Design and Creation standard operation procedures for all transmission technologies activities, which include: audio/video and communications check-in and QC process for remotes, outgoing transmission activity, and ingest. This includes linear Broadcast as well as digital stream creation.
Responsible for the configuration, maintaining and troubleshooting of all transmission and communication systems to ensure maximum reliability for all live Sports productions.
Creates and develops preventative system maintenance plans, problems resolution check list, and system for tracking transmission logs.
Operational Knowledge of Scheduling and ingest automation systems
Must have the ability to design, document and manage new system technical Systems as well as workflows.
Responsible for day-to-day management and scheduling a team of Engineers as well as Operational Staff.
Ability to lead and maintain all technical Transmission and Ingest systems.
Qualifications/Requirements :
Basic Qualifications
Component level and/or broadcast television engineering maintenance experience required with minimum experience of four (4) years in a broadcast environment
Must have knowledge of fiber optic technologies and coax transport, MPEG 2 and 4 encoding and decoding, ASI, MPEG over IP, Dolby-E, MATV/ IPTV, multi-way processors, standards converters, frame syncs, matrix based communications systems, and plant routing systems
Ability to create and comprehend signal flow documents (CAD) as well as systems level troubleshooting.
Advances troubleshooting and signal flow skills.
Must be proficient with broadcast test and measurement equipment in addition to MS Office, Visio, and AutoCAD.
Excellent communicator and be able to manage highly technical operations teams while interfacing with Engineering, Operations, Production, and 3rd party vendors.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Position requires a cool, level headed individual who works well under the pressures of “live” television.
Ability to prepare and deliver written and oral communications of complex matters.
Ability to escalate critical transmission problems quickly and efficiently in order to minimize disruptions and ability to work around failures to mitigate interruptions to the Live productions
Night and weekend assignments
Possible travel to remote sporting events, production locations and potentially 4-6 weeks of travel to the Olympic city each Olympic cycle.
