The Director of Game Operations for the Utica Comets will be responsible for planning and executing all 38 home games, plus any playoff game(s). The Director will also manage all game day employees and work closely with the sales and marketing departments to ensure sponsors are fulfilled all while providing the fans with an entertaining and fun experience.

Essential Job Functions:

Plan and compose scripts for all 38 games; this includes writing and editing PA reads, special announcements, and intermission contests
Work closely with Corporate to ensure that all game ops contacts are executed and fulfilled
Work closely with the Graphic Designer, Multimedia Director, In-Game Host, cameramen, and interns to ensure that games are executed to the best of their ability
Direct/call the game via headset
Manage the in-game host, mascot, dance team, and ice crew efficiently and effectively
Operate the lights and music for the building, keeping the music playlist current and game-appropriate
Creatively lay out each game to keep the entertainment value fresh and exciting
Book special guests, national anthem singers, and celebrity puck droppers
Organize media days throughout the year to shoot video board content
Work with the Creative Team to generate new video content, graphics, in-game promotions, intermission games, and pre/postgame activities
Develop a deep knowledge of the Comets brand to carry through all in-game exposure

Experience / Skills


Three to five (3-5) years of game operations experience, preferably in an arena or stadium atmosphere
Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college/university, preferably with a major in business/facility/sport management, marketing, or related field
Event management experience preferred
Ability to work nights, weekends, and some holidays, primarily from October – May
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
Strong oral communication skills
Ability to be extremely organized and efficient
Ability to work well in group settings and manage the day-to-day operations of other employees
Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Knowledge of TSE GameTime-Pro preferred
Previous experience with A/V equipment and electronic systems in arena facilities preferred
Knowledge of the sport of hockey preferred
