The American Chemical Society (ACS) is looking for an on-site contractor with animation, design and video production skills. The contractor will join ACS Productions, the Society’s award-winning video team, and will work on entertaining, educational videos that reach millions of viewers, including:

-Reactions, a popular educational series geared towards the public that highlights the chemistry in everyday life. Produced in collaboration with PBS Digital Studios, Reactions has received more than 32 million views, 500,000 social followers and has been featured on NPR, The Today Show, The Washington Post and other outlets.

-Speaking of Chemistry, a news series produced in collaboration with Chemical & Engineering News magazine.

-Collaborative video projects with the American Association of Chemistry Teachers, ACS Publications and other ACS units, including promotional videos, instructional content, live streams, interviews and more.

The 40 hour-per-week contract has a one-year term. The hourly rate is commensurate with experience. The contract may be extended beyond the one-year term, and has the potential to become a full-time, salaried position.

Experience / Skills


Position requirements:

-Expert-level knowledge of Adobe After Effects to produce motion graphics and animation

-Expert-level skills with Adobe Premiere and Adobe Photoshop

-At least two years of experience in animation/video production

-Strong sense of design and aesthetics

-A passion for science and educational content

-Ability to deliver high quality videos with minimal oversight

-Undergraduate degree in film, animation, design or a related field

-Experience producing educational videos on YouTube or Facebook is preferred

-Experience with camera equipment, lighting and on-location video shoots a plus

-A background in science (especially chemistry) and/or skills in audio production, 3D animation, drawing, script writing and/or photography are pluses (but not required)
