Grand Canyon University is seeking a Broadcast Engineer. The Broadcast Engineer will be an integral part of the GCU TV broadcast operations staff. The position will work with the GCU video marketing team to ensure successful installation and operation for over 150 yearly live-streaming events. In addition, the position will maintain and provide inventory tracking of all video equipment.
The engineer works to monitor, maintain, and repair anything that can interfere with the transmission signal. Additionally, they help modulate volume and (in the case of visual media) the color palette. The engineer ensures that remote broadcasts are received seamlessly over the airwaves.
-Set up and operation of all broadcast equipment
-Ensure all transmission links are secure and are streaming constantly for quality broadcast; monitor to ensure end to end connectivity
-Minimize loss of service when equipment fails by identifying and implementing alternative methods of service provision in a high pressure situation. Able to quickly troubleshoot and diagnose any issues that may arise during production.
-First-line faultfinding and repair of a range of broadcast and audio and video equipment.
-Test encoder quality and 508 compliance associated with broadcasts
-Responsible for maintenance and inventory tracking of all GCU owned broadcast equipment and ensure any rental equipment is returned timely and in good condition.
-Perform regular software and hardware updates.
Install and test all equipment for each event
-Set up and operate editing equipment for post-production
-Adhere to workplace safety guidelines; establish a "safe" broadcast environment at every production shoot.
Experience / Skills
-Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and/or Broadcast Maintenance Engineering training.
-Minimum of 5 years’ experience with professional live, remote and/or studio production.
Experience with video switchers, graphics platforms, -LED displays and components, video instant replay systems, broadcast cameras, fiber and coax cable termination, IP delivery systems.
-Familiarity with live video streaming software and protocols.
-Experience with a variety of production environments, ranging from 2- person to 25+ person TV broadcasts.
-Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
-Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Knowledge of NCAA regulations.
-Experience with camera shading.
-Support and maintenance of television production equipment, computer networks and subsystems.
-Ability to rapidly diagnose video system and IT problems; provide alternative solutions if needed to maintain deadlines.
-Experience directing live athletic events.
-Working knowledge of Single Mode Fiber.
-Knowledge of technology and industry trends in order to recommend upgrades in equipment and troubleshoot issues that arise with current equipment.
-Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
