The Digital Content & Strategic Communications Specialist will assist in publicizing Cornell’s 37 intercollegiate varsity sports in the department of athletics and physical education. Responsibilities include creating video content of the department’s varsity student-athletes, coaches, alumni, fans and more through the use of creative visual storytelling techniques; overseeing all aspects of the department’s central social media and visual identity strategies; directing creative elements; researching and evaluating user trends, experiences and emerging digital tactics; and managing the department’s growing digital archive. The position requires excellent interpersonal and other communication skills, as well as demonstrated superior video editing and graphic design skills. The position requires frequent evening and weekend hours and some travel. Bachelor’s degree in communications, video production or related fields with at least three years of experience working in a collegiate athletic communications office or equivalent experience required.
-Producing video content for the Athletic Communications Office, including, but not limited to, features, highlights, marketing, advertising, event previews, legacy videos/historical features, recruiting and fundraising pieces, coaches shows, etc.
-Designing engaging content through website and social media graphics.
-Helping design, implement and manage a comprehensive and strategic social media plan for central Athletics accounts.
-Managing, updating and maintaining digital library content.
-Managing and directing setup, execution and break down of interviews with Cornell student-athletes, coaches and alumni.
-Coordinating content distribution to national, regional and local media outlets.

Experience / Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, video production or related field.
- 2-3 years of experience in an athletic communications office, video production environment or equivalent.
- The position requires demonstrated and superior knowledge of videography and editing systems, the ability to use the video medium to be a storyteller, excellent interpersonal and other communication skills, a demonstrated knowledge of video recording equipment and editing software.
- Demonstrated and strategic use of social media.
- Must have an excellent knowledge of athletics and athletic terminology.
- A high level of editorial leadership and strategic content.
- Interpersonal skills that allow for comfortable, thought-provoking interviews with student-athletes, coaches, staff and alumni.
- Artistic ability to shoot, understand framing, color and light to create visually pleasing content.
- Understanding of digital archiving and metadata.
- Ability to develop new or revised systems, procedures, and work flow.
- Knowledge of how to use and care for high-end camera/video equipment.
- Experience with live event video streaming production.
- Experience with photography, including shooting live sporting events and photo editing.
