The Office of Communications in the A. James Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland is looking for a dynamic, creative, and collaborative storyteller to capture the Clark School’s academic excellence and communicate key messages to targeted audiences.
The Multimedia Specialist takes complex projects from concept to completion, developing unique and compelling content for all video communications within the Clark School and for external audiences. The Specialist is responsible for writing, producing, directing, and editing all video production work that supports Clark School priorities.
The Multimedia Specialist serves as the resident expert for Clark School multimedia and videography. S/he thinks and acts strategically and, with superb insight and judgment, employs a wide range of communications tactics and tools to ensure that the Clark School’s multimedia messaging is accurate, consistent, and reaches target audiences with impact. S/he is also responsible for managing all creative assets and sharing knowledge with team members, colleagues, and partners throughout the Clark School and University of Maryland.

-Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
-Operate multimedia equipment including a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) and video camera.
-Moving/transporting up to 30 pounds of equipment/materials. A cart will be provided for moving materials and supplies.
-Good visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
-Traverse the campus to attend meetings and transport items to/from other departments.
-Communicate with internal and external contacts. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

Experience / Skills
-Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
-3-5 years of progressive experience with video production, including operating pro-level, DSLR, and mirrorless cameras.
-Experience managing complicated assignments and projects with multiple contributors, editors, and stakeholders; organized and able to manage and implement all stages of a project on tight deadlines.
-Demonstrated exceptional video and audio editing, audio design, and recording skills.
-Demonstrated advanced knowledge of professional lighting gear and techniques.
-Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud.
-Ability to effectively tell a story visually.
-Ability to self-manage and film independently.
-Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to listen to and professionally respond to colleagues/clients and their strategic objectives, direction, and feedback.
-Superb collaboration skills and a willingness to share knowledge and expertise to achieve common goals in a multi-stakeholder environment.
-Attention to detail.
-Bachelor’s degree in video production, photography, visual or fine arts, or a related field.
-Prior experience working with engineering, scientific, and/or other technical subject matter.
-Skill in photography and photo editing.
-Experience working on animation and motion graphics.
-Experience with database design and management.
-Knowledge of interactive media and interface design best practices.
-A commitment to understanding and using new technology.
