Transmission Engineer II
An experienced Transmission Engineer is needed to support Transmission engineering and operations technologies for the NBC Sports Group. This position works with and supports all in the NBC Sports Group Stamford facility including the NBC Sports Network, NBC Network, Olympics, and Digital/Web content.
-Ensures the engineering designs, plans, maintenance and other activities results in a safe and reliable transmission operation; inclusive of transmission lines, switching stations, encoding/decoding, frame syncs, routing and scheduling systems.
-Interfaces with the Operations and Production departments to ensure all their transmission and routing needs are being met.
-Interacts with transmission carriers to resolve issues, escalations, maintenance, and overall performance.
-Ability to follow standard operation procedures for all transmission technologies activities, which include: audio/video and communications check-in and QC process for remotes, outgoing transmission activity, and ingest.
-Responsible for maintaining the transmission and communication systems to ensure maximum reliability for all live Sports productions.
-Perform preventative system maintenance on Broadcast Systems according to plans already in place.
-Need to have the ability to work with problems resolution check lists, and systems for tracking transmission logs.
Experience / Skills
-Component level engineering maintenance experience is required.
-Preferred experience of two (2) years of collective broadcast experience.
-Knowledge of fiber optic and coax transport, MPEG 2 and 4 encoding and decoding, ASI, MPEG over IP, Dolby-E, MATV/ IPTV, multi-way processors, standards converters, frame syncs, matrix based communications systems, and plant routing systems.
-Ability to comprehend signal flow documents (CAD) as well as systems level troubleshooting.
-This position includes some operational type work as well as hands on highly technical engineering that requires advance troubleshooting and signal flow skills.
-Must be proficient with broadcast test and measurement equipment in addition to MS Office, Visio, and AutoCAD.
-Excellent communicator and able to interface with high functioning operations teams while interfacing with Engineering, Operations, Production, and 3rd party vendors.
-Excellent interpersonal skills.
-Position requires a cool, level headed individual who works well under the pressures of “live” television.
-Ability to prepare and deliver written and oral communications of complex matters.
-Position may require nights and weekend assignments.
