Position is responsible for assisting in the design, selection and development of new production technologies used in and around NBC’s Olympic & NBC Sports Group productions, graphics, transmission, and the emerging technologies of UHD, HDR and beyond.


-Involves working with new hardware/software-based broadcast equipment that will be developed or modified for NBC needs, including development of proof-of-concepts, testing, and test events, follow-up and vendor interaction of new products. Also involves the design and fabrication of existing products and systems for the Olympic or NBC Sports Group efforts.
-Will include the development of conceptual and detailed engineering design specifications, and the functional/operational specifications for new production systems that incorporate the needs of the production team and technology goals. Will involve the technical supervision of the implementation, installation, commissioning, budgeting, development schedules, and on-air operator training and maintenance
-Development and refinement of new 1080P, 4K and HDR workflows will be critical to this job. Up, Down, Cross conversion, Custom LUTs, Single Stream HDR/SDR Production techniques need to be thoroughly understood.
-Graphics Technologies: knowledge of Graphics technology, render farm functions and management, Mac & Adobe project workflow, file-based workflows, and knowledge of UDP- based file acceleration platforms [as a delivery mechanism for Remote production]. This position will interact with various Production-based client groups, assisting them in charting a path forward for new graphics technologies.
-Design and implement graphics workflows specific to client groups as they apply to file-based workflows, transcoding, and database integration
-Research new Graphics Technologies, and arrange frequent technology previews for production, for Operators, and for graphics creation teams
Research & Development for new technologies that can help our clients increase savings, efficiency and production quality
-On-site support for major events – both domestic and international
-Position will be involved in detailed troubleshooting and problem resolution for any equipment and products used within the Olympics and NBC Sports Group facilities or remotes. Position will involve direct interface with many equipment vendors and outside resources. And will require gaining an intimate knowledge of our client needs and making sure the delivered systems meet those needs in the most advanced, efficient, operator friendly, and reliable way.
-The position will be involved in both short and long-term strategic planning of new production initiatives and technology replacement cycles. Assist with the development of the business’ technology strategies including development of the capital/operating plans and management of multiple projects

Experience / Skills


Basic Qualifications:

-Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Broadcast Production Technology, or equivalent (10-12 years) work experience.
-Remote television Production & Planning experience
-Willing to work long hours and weekends during peak times.
-Willing to travel both domestically on weekends and every 2 years internationally of Olympics (for extended periods of time)
-Capital and Expense Budgeting, and Planning.
-Experience with IP and SDVN video routing and delivery
-1080i, 1080P, 4K, SDR and HDR production techniques
-LUT and Resolution conversion
-System timing, latencies, and related implementation issues for SDI and -IP related systems design
-Routing control systems
-Video codecs, compressions systems, recording systems, camera and super motion camera systems, and all file-based video formats
-SDI, camera, and IP Fiber infrastructure, AES, MADI, and 5.1 multi-channel audio
-Hands on direct knowledge of broadcast television technologies including Analog/SD/HDSDI Video, Audio/Video signal routers, Control Room facilities, character generators/graphics playout systems, fiber optic distribution, video servers, VTRs, digital compression, satellite and RF systems and broadcast test and measurement equipment
-Experience with IT based technologies/processes including Networking, SAN and NAS Storage architectures, asset management systems, server technologies including hardware architectures, real-time systems and custom application development
-Networking and operating system trouble shooting skills in a broadcast video environment are essential
-Experience in new product definitions, white papers, and development of engineering and functional specifications, software applications, and methodical testing and troubleshooting
