Reporting to the CEO, the VP of Engineering is responsible for overseeing all technical areas of the facility including baseband delivered signals, transport streams in ASI or IP and RF services. This position requires a strong leader with an ability to direct and motivate technical staff. Additionally, you will be required to establish and maintain a reliable maintenance program while operating the department in compliance with FCC rules and regulations.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining all systems to ensure fault tolerant and error free operations of the network’s broadcast producing efficient, flawless Network operations. In this role you will be accountable for the stations technical performance including Broadcast IT. You will provide technical insight and vision as it relates to current and future video server, automation, and related media management initiatives as well as current and future Production, Postproduction and file based Workflows.
This person will work as part of a collaborative Engineering team to include Engineer in Charge and on-call duties. Must be able to work five days a week to include one weekend night with schedule flexibility as business requires.
Experience / Skills
You Will:
Develop Engineering plans and strategies to support the achievement of NESN’s business objectives
Function as a strategic advisor to executive management regarding broadcast engineering technology and systems
Set the direction and goals of the department, effectively communicating and fostering inclusion among the Engineering team
Work as part of NESN’s leadership team to move the business forward and create a world-class work environment
Partner with the Broadcast Engineering Manager on planning, anticipating operational needs, and executing cross-departmental projects
Lead the team in successfully anticipating, developing and implementing strategies that meet current and future business needs
Estimate and establish project timelines and manage projects to ensure deliverables are met on time
Identify, diagnose and repair all broadcast related production equipment, uplink transmitters, Broadcast IT networks, antennas, etc. in a timely manner
Maintain broadcast production equipment, uplink transmitters, Broadcast IT networks, antennas etc.
Act as the Engineer in Charge of live events
Research and recommend equipment purchases within budget constraints
Ensure all safety protocols are followed, maintained and updated
Develop and manage a budget geared to achieving the network’s objectives within established financial parameters
Interact with major decision makers to convince and influence business decisions
Build and enhance high level internal and external relationships
As part of the executive team, lead and/or make key contributions to organizational-wide initiatives
Successfully engage in and complete other related responsibilities and projects as necessary
You Have:
15+ years in broadcast/production engineering maintenance experience required
10 years of experience managing and developing a team
An electrical engineering bachelor’s degree or other related technical degree required
FCC License and/or SBE Certification at the CBTE level required
CCNA certification
Must possess extensive knowledge of all broadcast systems, government regulations and industry standards to ensure the television stations’ technical compliance
Understanding of digital and automation technology is essential, including IP based technology and 4K
RF knowledge to include terrestrial, Ku, and Ka Band as well as Antenna and sub systems
Familiarity with IT and computer control systems as well as a CCNA certification
Experience with Cisco PowerVu compression platforms and occasional use compression such as Adtec and Ericsson
Familiar with studio operations as they pertain to single and multicamera productions
Successful track record of working in a fast-paced, challenging environment
Must be a self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision but also able to work effectively within a team environment
High level of professionalism and the ability to adapt to a quickly changing environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Use of AutoCad, Visio and MS Project is required
Ability to work in a 24/7/365 environment, which may include working some nights, weekends and holidays
