Job Summary:
ABC News is looking for a highly motivated, self-starting, process-oriented and qualified professional to fill a full-time staff IT/Network Technician position at Disney’s ABC Washington DC Bureau.

Responsibilities:

As an IT/Network technician the candidate will need to be able to work with the Broadcast Engineering Team to design systems, install equipment, and provide ongoing support to a 24/7 television broadcast facility. The ABC Washington Bureau has many control rooms, master control, editing systems with multiple server systems and other broadcast resources that the candidate will assist with keeping operational. The DC Bureau creates many daily live broadcast for ABC News and ESPN including studio productions and also serves as a disaster recovery site for the ABC network.

The candidate must possess a wide range of knowledge and skills in the field of IT and network operations and engineering. In particular, the candidate must possess a strong working knowledge of networking protocols and transports as well as be able to configure 3rd party software applications. A degree in Informational Technology or related field and/or five or more years of hands-on computer operations, engineering and management are required. This is a “hands on” position; the candidate must have the willingness to work directly on the facilities.

Experience / Skills


Preferred Qualifications:

-A background in digital media systems, preferably with some television production support experience
-Expertise in digital video and audio over an IP networks including knowledge and experience implementing the following standards:
-SMPTE 2110 and 2022
-ASPEN
-AES 67
-DANTE
-Able to install, configure and maintain television broadcast software applications including:
-AVID ISIS and Grass Valley K2 editing servers with associated editing clients
-Grass Valley NVision NV9000 router control
-Grass Valley Miranda iControl
-Have a strong knowledge of protocols including TCP / IP, SNMP, FTP, VOIP etc.
-Have the ability to setup and monitor network and broadcast gear using SNMP traps and test equipment
-Have a strong knowledge of computer interfaces including Ethernet, USB, DVI, RS232/422, GPI/GPO, etc
-Be able to design, wire, integrate, configure, and test Ethernet based networks
-Have the knowledge to design, configure, and maintain routers, firewalls, SSL VPN, IDPs, NLBs, and switches, including Cisco products. Certifications desired.
-Be able to setup and manage DHCP, DNS and fixed IP configurations
-Be able to design, wire, configure and maintain large IP based KVM matrix systems
-Be able to setup VNC / Remote desktop systems and video capture cards
-Be able to monitor network infrastructure capacity, faults, and performance and proactively identify and design solutions to operating system issues
-Be able to write and maintain documentation for all network devices, services, and processes
-Possess strong analytical and problem solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve complex systems problems quickly with little technical guidance and develop corrective measures for problems
-Be able to quickly identify and replace failed hardware and work with vendors to isolate and resolve technical problems if necessary
-Have the ability to handle basic hardware installation and maintenance, including being able to lift up to 20lbs to heights of up to 6ft
-Have the ability to balance and prioritize work and to multitask
-The candidate should enjoy working in a team environment that promotes sharing and creativity in the workplace.
