The Mill Group, Inc. seeks Senior Engineer to work in Chicago, IL. Ensure that all technical resources within The Mill Chicago’s VFX suites, Telecine/Grading suites, 3D workstations, Beam suites, MCR and Media Transfer departments as well as operational departments are maintained and working to optimum capacity while delivering a strong research and development, implementation and maintenance plan for all video equipment within the office. Maintain, support and upgrade onsite and offsite equipment, software and cabling. Provide advice and support to clients, Producers, Creative Artists, technical staff and senior management with regard to technical issues. Assist the Head of Engineering in the planning and installation of one-off projects, expansions and new suites. Maintain, support and upgrade onsite and offsite equipment, software and cabling. Where appropriate, carry out technical research of current technologies including work stations, broadcast equipment, color imagery and software and recommend appropriate action, such as upgrade, replace, rewire, or reconfigure to the Head of Engineering. Provide support and assistance to all Operators in the building on a shift pattern. Monitor calibration. Maintain safety of all technical areas including MCR, suites, workshops and storage areas. Upgrade, install and move systems in a timely manner to ensure the production schedule is maintained. Perform maintenance of 2D workstations, monitors and VTRs. Manufacture and adapt custom hardware, e.g., audio monitoring boxes. Respond in a timely manner to technical requests from operations, production and scheduling. Manage quality control on all projects undertaken. Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Post Production, Film and Media Arts or a related field of study, and three (3) years of experience in a related position in a professional film, video, or television post-production or visual effects environment. Work experience or academic coursework must have included: Three (3) years of experience in UNIX/Linux, Mac OSX and Windows system administration; knowledge of AWS/GCP concepts and workflows; engineering-level knowledge of standard computer graphics, compositing and color grading applications Maya, Houdini, Flame, Nuke and Baselight; MacOS and Windows configuration; system administration knowledge of Active Directory, DNS and DHCP; and Python 2 and 3. Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally 10% of time.
