POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for directly managing and providing leadership to a designated team of Engineers while also overseeing the technical management of dedicated mobile units. This person will work as part of a collaborative Engineering team and will provide technical insight and vision as it relates to current and future truck projects. His/her responsibilities will include establishing and maintaining a robust training program, project management of assigned large-scale productions, and on-call duties.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Staff Management
- Directly manage a team of assigned Engineers; accurately assess on-the-job performance, serve as a mentor, and provide feedback
- Travel to trucks on a monthly basis in order to assess the Engineering team readiness, equipment maintenance, and cleanliness of truck
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Engineer questions, concerns, and emergency needs
- Serve as a primary point of contact for Engineer scheduling-related matters
- Liaison with assigned Engineers, assigned Account Managers, and office staff to ensure client needs are met in an appropriate and timely manner
- Work proactively to resolve day-to-day employee relations issues
- Work with Account Managers and Engineering Director to ensure resources and staff are scheduled efficiently and equitably
- Manage annual performance review process, including soliciting feedback from Engineers and their peers, providing feedback on performance, setting annual Top 5 Results, and making salary recommendations to HR and Engineering Director
- Assist Human Resources and Engineering Director in the recruitment and orientation process for new Engineers
- Travel to the office/shop on a quarterly basis to meet with Engineering management and senior leadership in order to discuss current projects and other initiatives
- Work with Engineering Director and senior leadership to ensure Engineers are delivering world-class service to GCV clients
- Handle off-hour, mission-critical issues as needed

Mobile Unit Management
- Work directly with Engineers and Account Managers to identify critical and ongoing technical issues with each mobile unit and develop an action plan outlining solutions
- Actively participate in resolution of technical emergencies as needed
- Work directly with the Operations Managers to schedule time to work on outstanding technical issues or schedule needed vendor or GCV upgrades to dedicated mobile units
- Monitor via online task management system all ongoing technical issues and report on resolutions to Engineering Director and Engineering leadership team
- Actively provide leadership, direction, and support during new truck builds
- Work with Purchasing Manager to ensure all parts and supplies requests are accurate and accounted for correctly

Technical Project Management
- Lead the planning, onsite management, resource allocation, and documentation of all aspects of assigned large-scale productions, including thorough post-show follow-up
- Lead a team of Engineers by keeping them informed, motivated, and utilized; resolve conflicts and serve as the ultimate decision-maker on site
- Establish and maintain relationships with clients, work to understand show needs, and ensure resources and staff are aligned to meet agreed-upon expectations
- Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects
- Develop detailed project plans to monitor, track, and evaluate progress before, during and after events
- Work closely with Logistics to ensure adequate allocation of resources to projects
- Work closely with Purchasing Manager to ensure all database systems accurately reflect inventory levels, equipment repair statuses, etc.
- Facilitate and lead post show debrief meetings and complete post-show documentation

Training & Development
- Assist Engineering Director in the development of training programs for Engineering staff
- Collect data to help identify individual skills gaps and training needs
- Collaborate with Engineering Director and Human Resources to create training plans for Engineers
- Collect feedback on training classes to ensure program effectiveness; propose modifications as necessary

Experience / Skills


JOB REQUIREMENTS:

- Exceptional working knowledge of broadcast technology and broadcast equipment
- Excellent computer/IT skills, including a thorough understanding of networking, subnets, and IP configuration
- Expert level understanding of audio, visual, and graphic systems used in mobile television units
- Exceptional skills in the maintenance and troubleshooting of Grass Valley switchers, Calrec audio consoles, Evertz routing, EVS replay servers, studio and ENG cameras, electronic graphics equipment, multi-viewers, and computer networking
- Demonstrate superior leadership qualities; work in a team-focused environment with fellow employees, office staff, clients, and crews to manage, delegate and/or execute tasks, solve problems, and deliver a world-class customer experience
- Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale projects

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of experience in a remote broadcast engineering environment
- 2+ years in management/team leader role
- Ability to travel 55+% of the time
- Ability to work effectively with diverse styles, skills, and abilities
- BA/BS in Engineering or other advanced technical degree preferred
- COVID-19 vaccination unless reasonable accommodation is approved

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to walk or stand up to 8 hours at a time
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel on both knees, and climb stairs frequently
- Ability to lift up to 50-75 lbs. frequently
- Ability to carry 50 lbs. a distance of 50 feet occasionally
- Ability to pinch (10 lbs.) and grip (50 lbs.) related broadcast equipment
- Must be able to maintain a position within a space 3.5 - 4 feet tall up to 1 minute occasionally
- Ability to horizontally transfer 40 lbs. on a push-pull cart up to 50 feet
- Ability to vertically transfer 50 lbs. on a push-pull system with upper extremities only from 4.5 – 6 feet
- Ability to ascend and descend a ladder
