Summary of Position

The role of Administrator, Academy Operations presents an empowering opportunity to help shape the rules and procedures for the premier recognition of excellence in the television industry: the Emmy® Awards. The position is a key member of the Academy Operations team of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). It bridges teams specifically focused on the individual award genres presented by NATAS: the Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, the Daytime Emmy Awards, the News & Documentary Emmy Awards, the Sports Emmy Awards, and the Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards. In addition, the position supports other efforts core to the mission of the organization, including member support and basic operations.

The Academy Operations Administrator should possess a positive and inquisitive personality and be comfortable working in an “all hands on deck” small-team environment. The position reports to the Head of Academy Operations and is highly involved with the respective genre leads as assigned. The role may be based either in our New York City office or as a remote-work position.

The individual in this role is expected to be at ease with all facets of each yearly Emmy Awards competition, their underlying rules and procedures, and the technical systems involved. The typical day may include reviewing competition entries for rules compliance, helping to guide and instruct entrants through the rules and processes, organizing judging panels, preparing instructional or other content for NATAS digital communications channels, or gathering and organizing data on the progress of the competition.

Challenges & Responsibilities

* Quickly develop knowledge of the rules of each national Emmy Awards competition and the more than 200 categories so-entailed.
* Learn, understand, and utilize the software that handles the entry, review, and video submission processes and the judging system.
* Respond to submissions inquiries and other outreach from members of the television community, escalating to other members of the Awards Administration team as needed.
* Gather, record, and update contact and profile information of all judges and assist in the assembly, preparation, and management of judging panels and sessions.
* Track incoming payments for entries.
* Generate and analyze reports reflecting competition metrics.
* Help facilitate music and clip licensing for ceremony use.
* Monitor and contribute to the maintenance of the awards database.
* Assist in reviewing new membership applications and confirming ongoing membership eligibility.
* Provide general support to the membership and outreach department.
* Assist as needed with the preparation of team-produced publications and materials such as the annual Rules & Procedures, Transparency Report, and documents required by other NATAS departments.
* Additional tasks as assigned.

Success Metrics

Success in this role is measured by:
* Effectiveness in addressing entrant questions and concerns, as measured by the volume of clarification requests around rules, average inquiry response times, entry error rates, and other measurable outcomes.
* Accuracy and timeliness of the awards and judging databases.
* Expansion of judging pools and engaged communities.
* Qualitative feedback from colleagues, partners, and competition participants.
* Other measures of overall competition health, such as participation growth.

Experience / Skills

Candidates for this position should have:
* An awards administration, media production, or related television background, ideally with 5 to 10 years of relevant experience.
* Strong work ethic and close attention to detail.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite Cal/Docs/Sheets/Forms, mainstream social media platforms, essential database functions, and other standard technology tools. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Slack, and/or Trello is a bonus.
* An ability to interact effectively with stakeholders across various disciplines, work toward consensus, and be a team player.
* Flexible to work nights and weekends as needed and to travel domestically, particularly during awards entry deadline, judging, and ceremony periods.
* An ability to work effectively in a hybrid office/work-from-home environment (hybrid status is subject to change at any time).
