Position: Assistant Director, Patriot Productions
Position Type: Wage with maximum salary of $20,000. 1,500 maximum number of hours allowed to work in nine-month period (Mid-August to Mid-May).

Reports to: Director, Patriot Productions
Supervisory Role: Will work closely with Mason Cable Network staff and students for web streaming of athletic events. Will also oversee coach’s video position for men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball and lacrosse.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
STUDIO/SET PRODUCTION

-Works in collaboration with the Director to produce a variety of video projects for the department website, GoMason.com, including post game highlight packages, promotional videos and team highlight videos.
-Serves as a point of contact for video streaming of athletic events.
-Assists the Director with video feature shoots, including lighting, sound and video acquisition.
-Will make recommendations to the Director for hardware and software upgrades.

FIELD PRODUCTION

-In cooperation with the Director, coordinates electronic field production (EFP) efforts for all of George Mason’s 22 intercollegiate sports.
-This includes capturing game highlights and conducting post-game interviews.
-Provides limited troubleshooting and maintenance of field production equipment.
-Serves as point of contact for student video shooters for coach’s video.

POST-PRODUCTION

-Plans and performs video post-production tasks which includes reviewing footage, making editorial decisions, transcoding and labelling footage, color correction and final editing using Final Cut Pro software (Final Cut Pro X preferred).
-Will utilize graphics and special effects for video post-production in accordance with the overall production concept.
-Once projects are completed, will prepare project for output using encoding and compression software.

Experience / Skills


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Bachelor’s degree in communications, video production and/or completion of a certificate program in television production from an accredited technical institute.

EXPERIENCE

Progressively responsible experience in a professional video editing/production environment while demonstrating competence in all areas of video production.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Professional video production procedures, practices, techniques, and terminology; studio production with multi-camera shooting; cinematography; principles of digital video capture; professional television production equipment operation including video cameras and recorders, audio recording equipment, file compression, video switching, character generation, graphics manipulation, lighting and post-production equipment; advanced computer operations; standard software applications and advanced Final Cut Pro X and Adobe Creative Cloud video editing software; proper handling and troubleshooting of broadcast quality video production and post-production equipment; safety practices related to video production.

SKILL AND ABILITY TO:

Operate and maintain a variety of digital video cameras (Panasonic P2 and Sony NXCAM) and video editing equipment; operate computers and relevant systems and software; creatively plan and translate abstract concepts into effective visual form; work with students to coordinate webcasts of intercollegiate athletic events; develop and optimize workflow techniques to manage complex video projects effectively and efficiently; troubleshoot video product complications; research solutions and make technical decisions; communicate effectively with individuals and groups; write and speak clearly, concisely and effectively; meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities; research and remain current on the developments and applications of state of the art video production technology.
