Human Interest and Job Brief:
We are looking for a passionate and talented New York City-based video editor who knows how to put together an engaging story using the footage available and can take responsibility / ownership of the episode. Understanding subtleties in humor, capturing emotive chords, and finding the human moments of each video is of vital importance.

What will you be spending your time on:
You will be in charge of assembling recorded footage, audio and music into episodes that will be broadcast regularly on YouTube and edit some of those episodes down into smaller 1 minute promo clips for on Instagram and/or IGTV. There is a lot of creative freedom provided working with our efficient workflow. We simply want to make the episodes as engaging, fun and informative as possible and we really value your creative input as long as it improves the story of the episode. Review our previous episodes here to really get a feel for what we produce: www.youtube.com

Working conditions:
We’d like to trial a working relationship first, likely starting late summer/fall 2019 and then go from there. This will start part-time over the course of a month and there is a lot of flexibility in the schedule, particularly if we’re ahead of schedule. We have an office space you can use from time-to-time during the day depending on the situation. We’d need someone in New York City, as it’ll just be easier to share files, but working remotely from now and again is a possibility, provided that you’re based here and that we have the workflow down. It would be best if you had your own equipment like a laptop to edit on so you can be flexible with schedule and comfortable on your own computer.

Next steps:
We would need your reel, two-three work references, etc. and if we like what we see, we would like to test out a working relationship for a fixed rate first by doing a few videos and then going from there.

Experience / Skills

Your skills:
You should have a professional grasp of how to edit—bringing sight and sound together to tell a cohesive, meaningful story—matching or improving upon the style of our pre-existing episodes, which can be found here: www.youtube.com. We use Final Cut Pro X for all the videos we produce so a good understanding of that would be necessary. Although this position is mostly editing, It would be good if you have a basic understanding of how to operate a Sony a6500 camera and potentially help film some of the episodes, which will also help you in telling the story of the edit. We also like to explore and shoot things like timelapses of plants growing and we also create animations for some videos to drive home a point, usually something interesting and educational.
