What's in store for NAMM 2017?

What could be better than starting off 2017 with one of the best showcases of new, professional music products and services? Hot off the heels of CES in Las Vegas, the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Show is set to kickoff January 19-23, 2017 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. The NAMM Show is one of the largest music product trade shows in the world, founded in 1901.

25 Movies We Can't Wait to See at Sundance 2017

Rolling Stone puts together 25 MUST SEE films

Logo While most folks are looking back at the past year's highlights and what's likely to nab Oscar nods, the Sundance Film Festival is looking ahead – not just to what may end up on folks' best-of lists or awards' voters ballots 12 months from now (remember, this is where Boyhood premiered in 2014, and where Manchester by the Sea had its very first screening last year), but toward the future. For almost four decades, before it even adopted the name of a famous screen outlaw, Robert Redford's Utah-based fest has been searching for the big "what's next."

Improve Your Documentary Videos with 4 Tips

There’s nothing better than a series of challenging shoots to improve your video production skills. For me and my partner in crime, we thought we had nailed the art of the short documentary after producing, shooting, and editing weekly documentaries all over Alaska, featuring eccentric subjects in some of the harshest of conditions, for 65 weeks in a row.

3. Pack your best gear that you can carry

I could write about documentary gear for ages, because the gear you bring and use really does impact the kind of video story you can achieve. For us, we’ve found it’s most useful to think of our documentary production as such: not the fastest and cheapest, but not Hollywood either.

Exclusive Interview with Joe Lamond, NAMM President and CEO

"... like the progression seen in the beginning of the Wizard of Oz..."

PH: This is somewhat of a trick question. If you had to pick one area of the show you like the most, what would that be?

Lamond: Yes, that is a trick question, which of the over 1.2 million square feet of the show do I like the best? It would be impossible to pick one, rather what I like most about the show is the feeling that I get when I walk into the convention center on Thursday morning; it’s like the progression seen in the beginning of the Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy is transported out of the black and white in Kansas and lands in Technicolor Oz. It’s pure sensory overload of sound and color and of people and energy. Honestly, if the vibrancy of the show could be bottled and sold there would be an endless demand because it creates the kind of euphoria that cannot be duplicated.

6 Reasons Bigger Isn't Always Better: Tackling Projects from Marvel, Disney & Microsoft

Big projects need big teams, right? Not necessarily. Thanks to today’s technology – paired with the constantly developing talent of today’s artists – the nimble boutique team can take on projects for the world’s biggest brands without fear of falling short.

Sequence’s small team has worked on projects for the likes of Microsoft, Disney and Marvel, such as Transformers: Forged to Fight, Star Wars Commander: Rogue One Extension and Halo: The Fall of Reach – an hour-long narrative expansion to 343 Industries’ hugely popular Halo franchise.

DP Benjamin Gaskell Shoots Witness Project Documentary Series with a Blackmagic URSA Mini 4.6K

What challenges were associated with shooting? Did you have a hard time landing any shots?

A My favorite filming location was on a remote hill that had these beautiful rolling hills of golden wheat. It was quite a logistical challenge to work effectively in the space, and I had a lot of concerns while we were location scouting about making it work. However our skillful producer J.P. Mandarino was instrumental in putting together a plan that made the whole experience a very efficient operation. It was one of those shooting days where the crew had such a good time working in a beautiful location capturing a meaningful story that you could almost feel the disappointment when we called wrap.
