DOC NYC COMMITS TO INCLUDING ALL PRODUCERS IN FILM LISTINGS

New York (October 29, 2020) – The Documentary Producers Alliance (DPA) is pleased to announce that 30 feature documentaries produced and executive produced by their members will be part of this year’s DOC NYC program, out of a total of 107 features. And, for the first time, producers are being included in all DOC NYC promotional materials.

“Thom Powers and DOC NYC have long been incredible supporters of the documentary field. We are thrilled that this year, Thom and his team have taken the step of acknowledging producers front and center in their festival press release and film listings, and can only hope that this is an example that other festivals will follow,” says Beth Levison, DPA spokesperson and Crediting Committee Chair.

Founded in 2016, the DPA sets best practices while advocating for the welfare of producers toward a sustainable and equitable documentary industry. In 2019, the DPA launched “A Guide to Best Practices in Documentary Crediting”for filmmakers and their financial partners and in September 2020 the DPA launched Guidelines for the Documentary Waterfall.

“The Documentary Producers Alliance is making tremendous strides to strengthen a vital and underappreciated role in nonfiction storytelling,” said DOC NYC artistic director Thom Powers. "Their advocacy made clear to our festival how important it is to show recognition for the producer’s role whenever we can.”
