About Me

ANDREW RASMUSSEN (SDC) is a creative director and producer.

A New York-based director, designer, and producer, Andrew is passionate about outside-the-box storytelling that often involves puppets, cats, lasers, or electric guitars. His work covers an eclectic range of collaborative partners and projects — from new musical theatre to re-imagined plays, concerts and immersive experiences.

Andrew established Cardinal Theatricals, an independent producing and creative studio in 2004. His original productions include: THE WILD PARTY at The Fitzgerald Theater; JACQUES BREL at Miniaci Center; WHEN A MAN LOVES A DIVA and immersive stagings of RENT and ROCKY HORROR SHOW LIVE! at the 6,000-square foot warehouse LAB Theatre in Minneapolis. His original work (Co-writing & Directing) with performance artist MRS. SMITH premiered Off-Broadway in MRS. SMITH’S BROADWAY CAT-TACULAR! at the 47th Street Theater; an original space-rock musical at Berkeley Rep (TO MARS AND BACK AGAIN!), Actors Theatre of Minnesota and American Repertory Theatre’s OBERON. He has creative directed for TANK AND THE BANGAS, Grammy Award-Winning Jamecia Bennett and THE SOUNDS OF BLACKNESS, ORDWAY, 54 BELOW, NY Fringe Festival, and was commissioned to create a 125+ person musical flashmob for the MN TWINS opening of Target Field.

Andrew’s work as an Associate/Resident Director has taken him around the world from Broadway to helming productions in US, Asia and Europe including SMOKEY JOE’S CAFE, JOSEPH/DREAMCOAT, THE HONEYMOONERS (Pre-Bway and Paper Mill Playhouse), AND THE WORLD GOES ROUND, SHOUT!, SIDDHARTHA THE MUSICAL, and a Circus in China. He has been a creative artist for Broadway Asia, Music Theatre International, Proscenium, Ordway Center and Artistic Director Norwegian Cruise Line, where he leveraged artistic partnerships from THE SECOND CITY to TWYLA THARP.

A graduate of NYU/Tisch School of the Arts Drama, Andrew performed internationally from Radio City Music Hall to Tokyo. You may have seen his feet tap dancing on Broadway or his dead body on all three Law & Order series (for which his family has yet to watch). His original puppet film, CHRISTMAS 1976 won a couple independent short awards, including Los Angeles Film Festival.

Current projects:
CHARLOTTE’S WEB original adaptation, direction & design. Featuring the music of NYC Bluegrass band, SHERIFF AND THE DEPUTY with Theatreworks USA. HEINEKEN creative direction. CHRISTMAS 1976 director. TBA INTERNATIONAL PRODUCTION adaptation, creative direction, and design.

I have been in the industry since 1996.
