I’m an Emmy, Remi, and Telly award-winning director of photography and producer based in Denver, Colorado. I shoot short- and long-form documentaries, dramatic shorts and features, broadcast television shows, ads, and videos for corporate and nonprofit organizations.
My work has appeared in several film festivals, and broadcast on numerous networks, including NBC, PBS, The National Geographic Channel, Discovery Channel, PBS, Al Jazeera America, HGTV, and ESPN, among others. In addition to shooting, I am an accomplished producer and editor of three documentary films, which have garnered film festival awards and are in wide distribution via Netflix, DirecTV, iTunes, Hulu, Amazon, and VOD.
I shape light meticulously for highly aesthetic interviews and scenes for broadcast and dramatic productions. I strive for fresh and inspiring compositions. I shoot with the mindset of an editor, gathering a diverse range of shots and angles in each situation so that a scene may be built in post-production. I think and move quickly, am highly efficient, and adapt easily to fast-paced situations.
I take being a filmmaker to heart, so in addition to cinematography, I’m have extensive experience producing and directing (including two feature documentary films that have earned film festival awards and distribution on Netflix, DirecTV, iTunes, and Amazon). I am also an accomplished editor, photographer, and capable sound recordist. So whether you are looking for a “one-man band” or someone to assemble a production crew, I can help.
I am able to draw upon established relationships with experienced creative professionals—sound recordists, camera operators, producers, editors, teleprompters, make-up artists—to provide the necessary personnel for a successful production. I can provide the camera format and equipment required for your production with my own gear or through my relationships with local rental agencies.
“As director of photography on my documentary feature ‘Out of the Fire’, Doug was a true creative partner in the field. His exceptional cinematography, creative contributions, and vision were invaluable to the overall look and feel of the film. I recommend him highly, and look forward to working with him in the future.”
— Courtenay Singer, producer/director “Out of the Fire”
“Doug’s eye for moments cannot be matched. He captures images in a way that tells a story through his creative and artistic approach. Working with Doug is a pleasure—his professionalism and great work have made him my go-to!”
— Elise Carbonaro, nonprofit communications professional
“In the world of film and video production, I try to work with Doug as much as possible. As a cinematographer, he’s got an incredible eye and makes my work better.”
— Steve Dorst, independent producer and director
“We reached out to Doug when our deputy executive director needed an introductory video for a presentation. With a tight deadline, limited budget, and only a vague idea of what we wanted, Doug guided us through the process to produce a final product well beyond our expectations. The quality of the cinematography, editing, and sound were exceptional and made her presentation an overwhelming success.”
— Eduardo Ruiz, director of Information technology, Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health
“Wow. Working with Doug goes way beyond a great experience. Incredibly gifted director, editor, and filmmaker, yes. But those are just table stakes for Doug. He willingly invests his whole mind and spirit in a video project, resulting in a super-pro video production from start to finish. Even when you think your video project is great, just wait, Doug will insist on making it transformative.”
—Kara Verhoorn, Tell Me A Story

— Cameron W. Bill, post-production supervisor, Stanford Video
