The Groundlings School of Improvisation began in 1979 with only 17 students. Currently, up to 300 students are enrolled in the program which features both day and evening classes. The four-part curriculum (Basic, Intermediate, Lab and Advanced) gives students a systematic approach to learning improvisation and writting skills.
The Groundlings School offers graduates of the Advanced class an opportunity to be voted on as potential members of the Sunday Company which in turn nurtures potential Groundling members. The School has attracted a number of successful comic talents to their workshops, including Rita Wilson, Darryl Hannah and Conan O'Brien.
