About Me
Zahira has been working in the TV industry for more than 25 years. She started as a News Camera Operator and climbed up throughout the years to become one of the most respected and recognized Digital Cinematographers in the industry. Zahira is a Certified Steadicam Operator and one of the few women worldwide to possess that title.
Her career started when she became the first camerawoman in the island of Puerto Rico. She worked for Telemundo, a local television broadcasting company that later became a statewide broadcaster. She went on to collaborate behind the camera with CBS Latin America Bureau, CNN Spanish Network, and Eyewitness News.
In 1989 she was recognized by the Overseas Press Club for Best Camera Work in “Siete Islas, un solo destino”. In 1990 she also received the Best News Series award for “Eutanacia, ¿quién decide?” and the INTRE Director of Photography award for the first ever live satellite transmission to Puerto Rico. That year she was recognized by the Puerto Rico Senate for her work behind the camera.
As Director of Photography for “Geoambiente”, a Puerto Rican TV Show, she was part of the team who produced the shows that won 4 Emmy's, the Centennial Award from the U.S. Forestry Service, and the Excellence Award from the Environmental Protection Agency. The show was also a finalist in cinema and video environmental festivals in Brazil, Spain, Portugal & England.
Zahira works as Director of Photography for shows like Today in America with Terry Bradshaw, The Art of Living with Marilu Henner, and Inside Business with Fred Thompson. She presently owns a video production company, TV Lounge Productions, based in Miami, FL.
I have been in the industry since 1980.
