About Us

Redrock Microsystems, LLC was founded in 2004 by a group of avid digital filmmakers whose desire to produce high quality movie images without access to huge budgets led them to start Redrock Micro: a company committed to the express purpose of bringing cinema-quality accessories to market at revolutionary prices.

Today, Redrock Micro designs and sells a line of high quality cinema accessories for independent filmmakers, film educators and students, and budget-conscious moviemakers. Our flagship product is the award-winning M2 cinema lens adapter, which allows DV and HD/V cameras to use 35mm cinema lenses to radically improve the quality of recorded images. The M2 brings the quality and technology of high-end solutions at a fraction of the price. We have subsequently released the microFollowFocus, microPod, microLensSupport, and other high quality, low cost cinema accessories.

Redrock’s strong commitment to the community of independent filmmakers has also lead to the release of the Redrock DIY (do-it-yourself) Guide, an inexpensive alternative that promotes hands-on learning of camera lenses, videography, and the art of cinematography.

An interview from the 2018 Cine Gear Expo at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles with Brian Valente of Redrock Micro. Redrock Micro designs and sells a line of high quality cinema accessories for independent filmmakers, film educators and students, and budget-conscious moviemakers. In this interview Brian talks with us about their new DigiBoom, a gimbal-stabilized camera rig that merges the best of Steadicam, jib, drone, and handheld with the portability of an ENG camera. DigiBoom powers your cameras to go from ground level to over 8’ and everywhere in between while the integrated gimbal keeps shots smooth and steady (up to 12’ with the optional extension). This extension gives shooters the ability to easily create sweeping camera moves or place cameras into unusual point-of-views for maximum visual impact, extend the pole up to 8 feet to get shots of the tallest on the court, a crowded field and even places where tripods or handheld aren’t practical. Use the optional 3 foot extension accessory for even higher and truly epic views. Get in front of, above, below, or around any obstacles with total control of camera angle and position. DigiBoom doesn’t require additional crew or specialized skills, and can be learned in a few hours of practice. Familiar camera controls and functions are similar to traditional ENG cameras, and gimbal controls are intuitive and responsive. Solo camera operators are more productive and creative, now with options for unique dynamic footage. The highly mobile rig means shots and angles can be easily improvised for fast-moving news or on-the-spot creative choices. This new rig easily integrates with existing broadcast workflow, whether plugging in live to the production truck or recording b-roll. All the codecs, resolutions, and connectivity is there so DigiBoom is up and running on day one. DigiBoom can be used with any appropriate camera and display. To get the most from DigiBoom, the preferred recorder and camera are the Blackmagic Video Assist and Micro Studio Camera 4K, the world’s smallest broadcast quality live production camera. The unique connectivity of the Micro Studio 4K Camera’s expansion port gives operators fingertip control over all camera functions directly from the DigiBoom handgrips. The Video Assist offers full-time operator monitoring, recording to internal SD cards and offering SDI pass-through for live broadcast. DigiBoom can also use on-camera or external audio sources, and allows you to switch between them easily. The built-in XLR/ 1/4" dual purpose connectors offer industry standard ports for most audio inputs. You can use the on-camera mic for ambient sound, attach an onboard mixer (not included) and mix a wireless talent mic for location coverage, or run dual XLR inputs if you have a dedicated sound engineer.
