EVS Broadcast Equipment S.A. was founded in February 1994 by Laurent Minguet, Pierre L’Hoest and Michel Counson. The founders of EVS aimed to develop equipment for the digital recording of pictures on hard disks (disk recorders) for professional broadcasters within the television industry.
EVS Broadcast Equipment SA manufactures live outside broadcast digital video production systems. Its recorders have become the dominant standard for broadcasters worldwide. Their XT[2] production video servers enable the creation, editing, exchange and playout of audio and video feeds. EVS has achieved substantial success in compressed video and audio data processing, and is endeavoring to maintain their market position in the migration from analogue to digital in television networks.

It used EVS technology including XS live production servers and an IPDirector software suite. The news workflow allows 24/7 online news delivery, accessible from any web-connected device. Programming included live streaming, highlight packages and live distribution of HD signals to multiple screens within the RAI, as well as live coverage of conferences and exclusive live interviews.
