About Me

JOHN SLOAN is an award-winning producer, director and writer whose credits include television specials, a weekly news magazine program, corporate image films and television commercials.

John, most recently, was Senior Producer/Director at EFX Media in Arlington, VA where he produced videos for AOL, Westfield Concession Management, Booz Allen Hamilton, American Trucking Associations and Volunteers of America. John continues to work with EFX Media as a freelancer. His most recent videos were for the U.S. Coast Guard and the Environmental Protection Agency.

John created AMI Productions, the in-house production division of American Media, Inc. There, as VP, Executive Producer, he wrote, produced and directed the national commercial campaigns for AMI’s publications National Enquirer, Star, Globe, Country Weekly, AutoWorld Weekly and Mira.

John was instrumental in introducing the new television network, PAX TV. He created and produced PAX’s half-hour Preview show and more than a dozen marketing videos and on-air promos that helped establish PAX as the family-friendly network.

The work at PAX topped off two previous years of television specials for NBC-6 in Miami, which John wrote and produced, including its annual Hurricane Specials (‘96 & ‘97) and the Emmy-nominated Cyber Mania. John also produced NBC-6’s well-known weekly news magazine Montage.

As a staff writer/director at Miami’s Venture Productions (1992-1994), he directed more than 50 public service announcements for the Armed Forces Television Network. John wrote and directed the award-winning fund-raising documentary for Miami’s historical Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, and was writer and director/cinematographer for all the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau films from 1992 to 1997.

Prior to his move to South Florida, John lived and worked in Los Angeles (1988-1992). He was a Directing Fellow at The American Film Institute and was an independent commercial director for IPS Productions and Cinematic Directions. He also directed plays at the Theatre Of N.O.T.E. and the Donald O'Connor Theater.

John broke into the business as a news and documentary cinematographer for the NBC affiliate in Syracuse, New York, during his college years at Syracuse University. After graduation (with degrees in both communications and psychology), he became producer and director at Hart/Conway Advertising in Rochester, New York where he won numerous awards directing commercials starring celebrities such as Rodney Dangerfield, Jerry VanDyke and Bob & Ray.

His success brought him to Manhattan, where he became a producer at N.W. Ayer (New York). There, for AT&T, he produced the award-winning documentary-style campaign The System Is The Solution and pioneered the use of computer-generated images in The Knowledge Business campaign.

John opened Cinema Projects Inc. (New York) and subsequently, Sloan Films Inc. (Boston). During that time, he directed commercials for AT&T, American Express, Procter & Gamble, McDonalds, Disney World, United Way, Kryptonite Bike Locks, New York’s Milford Plaza Hotel and many others.
